The Old City of Dubrovnik
A cool project by The Graphics and Imaging Laboratory of the University of Washington’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, where thousands of photos of a city from Flickr are analyzed to rebuild a 3D model of the whole city. (4,619 images and nearly 3.5 million 3D points).

Neatly done. The things science can accomplish. What with the strange cubes on the street though. No one else noticed???

#5 The "strange cubes" represent actual camera positions, from where all the pics were taken.
Someone should triangulate the whole thing. Isolated points are neat, but there's much more information in the surface that the points describe.

If this was made up of images, why don't we get a look at any of the images making up the model?

it would be neat if they could make a computer map out of this and made it available to the visitors of the campus
The implications of this tech are amazing, you can fully render into 3-D images using only pics found on the internet to create a virtual world to explore anywhere pictures have been taken on the planet. sort of like Google's virtual 3-D road map but totally 'free flying'.
TED.com did a presentation referring to this.
