#2 the only way most of us would get on a helicopter, is if you are being rescued. i guess u feel safer dying on the ground.

I guess that proves what people say that helicopters are the most difficult to drive.

#10 Helicopters start spinning the tail rotor isn't moving at the right speed. As you can imagine that also applies to a tail rotor that is damaged or suddenly "missing" due to a collision. I can't seem to figure out why the fighter pilot ejected when he did tho, he must have known something we don't. 8-)

#12 It's from an air show over Stockholm. During the presentation of the then still very new aircraft, JAS 39 Gripen, the pilot did what is called pilot-induced oscillation. The lag between input, pilot action and actual conditions don't work out.

The result is an airplane that flies like a brick, in this case at such a low altitude it cannot be recovered safely.

They don't do it intentionally as you can see most of the crashes that you see a heli go off is because of wind currents.
You go in smooth then suddenly a strong back wind comes and in 1 sec your heli gets a kick in the back and you rocket ahead...crash.
Or you try setting the heli down then a side wind kicks in when your 30cm off the pad and throws you overboard.

Let a feather drop then blow it away its the same principle.

As for the rotor the rotation force generated from rotating the top rotor needs to be permanently and exactly compensated for the heli to float if at any give time its not exact you start spinning and that's pretty much it.

Although these crashes look horrible heli's are the only craft able to do certain jobs like saving our lives and accidents like these are very rare compared to car accidents for example.

When your fighting nature sometimes nature reminds you who's boss.
