Was it some communication-failure? Bridge is being lowered but goes up again - a bit too late ...

Enough said.
When they say "lack of monitoring procedures" do they mean that they need to monitor the BRIDGE better? Or monitor the fact that their employees aren't pissed & stoned better?

Unfortunatly a Boat like that isn't easily stopped...communication missunderstandings can lead to bad things...

I'm sure when they say drugs it isn't weed. If anything weed would make the guy concentrate better!

The article said he took some painkillers for back trouble, but had drunk a few glasses of wine earlier that day. He was hardly sat in his control room, downing bourbon and snorting coke.

I was there waiting to cross that bridge when this happened. I think I was heading to go somewhere dark to view the meteor shower that night.
I was on the bend on Hwy 20, I saw the bridge go down a bit and the boat on fire going down the canal. Not knowing what was really going on I foolishly turned around to go around via hwy 58, and couldn't get back to the site to check it out.
It was a pain that bridge was closed for months!

This was also on one of these disaster programs. Ship burns down afterwards because of the heat from the exhaust.

i dont really think that was funny. someone could have died. and they prolly did, since we dont know the whole story..
