By calculating the number of injuries per 1,000 times an athlete participates in a specific activity during the year, the study was able to determine which activities produced the highest injury rate. With 5.2 injuries per 1,000 exposures, boxers receive more injuries than athletes in any other sport. Snowboarders and tackle football players tied for second with 3.8 injuries, followed by ice hockey players (3.7); alpine skiers (3.0); and soccer (2.4), softball (2.2), and basketball (1.9) players. Two interesting statistics are that wrestlers sustain only 1.4 injuries for every 1,000 exposures, and softball players receive 0.8 per 1,000 more injuries than baseball players (2.2 and 1.4 respectively).

#3 and #7, so real men should play football or hockey without pads or helmets?
According to your logic, the more open to injury the players are, the manlier the sport is.
That's just plain stupidity.
I'm not bashing rugby--just how you're bashing other sports for their lack of injury exposure.

#11 but then again this does seem more manly than a few people kicking a ball around n falling over when some1 from other team gets near them

Awesome vid, beautiful sport!
@ MiNo, Taras etc.. if you don't understand Rugby or sport in general maybe you should hold on comments, this is a sport in which training, skill, strength, speed etc give the measure of your resilience, not the sheer amount of body armor you can wear and still be able to move.. also, body armor in hokey has very little to do with body checks, has alot more to do with the 10 inch blades that each player moves on and a 'stick' that's strong enough to rip your head off
This is a purist sport, for true athletes.. American football is a joke in comparison..
ps. If that means 'beaten to a pulp' to you, check Aussie Rules 8)

Most of the moves were faults.
But some great actions are in this vid, too.
If you can, watch the VI Nations tournament.

Half of the bloody faces at the start are from rugby league not rugby union, and after that all the hits all from union excluding a few.

#15 This sport makes you understand plainty stuff ... its not for bullies ... it makes you see that you can be strong and weak in the same hour, bring peace and respect in your mind, but saying rugby is played by wrong people show me that you dont know at all this sport... most of time its due to the fact that people like you dont know it and are scared of it.
Did you know that rugby player and fans never argue about decisions of the referees ?
And at the end its different to you but it doesnt mean you re not welcome to go to play it in your town!

LOL american football is basically americans wanting to look manly, so they wear big pads and helmets and look liek giant cushions and kid themselves and trying to show that their tough.. american football players are teh biggest pussies ever, rugby on the other hand is a real sport, with no pillows covering every pice of skin

@ #23 Comming from someone who has played (and enjoyed) both sports, I have respect for both games and players. What I cannot understand is the need for some people in these comments to take every chance presented to bash anything having to do with the US. All I can add to counter this is to quote Jeff Foxworthy,"we have people in the south who are just as smart as people anywhere else, We just can't keep the dumbest of those amongst us off the damn television!" I do encourage those who insist in this practice, (anything US Bashing), to confirm the info that you site. Often, the info given is flawed or simply opinion and therefore only proves the presenters ignorance and prejudice.
P.S. and yes... We do play rugby in the US. Just not very common. Usually privately organized leagues.

#25 How many NFL players have played with broken jaws or had their limbs broken during the game? Before the safety rules came into force, it was an all too common occurrence during the Rugby League season and during the grand finals.
The NFL is for people who want to look tough, Rugby League and Rugby Union is for people who are tough.
In Rugby League, there is no 3 minute break during play while your coach decides what play to do next, there is just 40 minutes of hard running and bone crunching tackling, a 20 minute break at half-time, and back onto the field for another 40 minutes!
Real men play Rugby League, Gentlemen play Rugby Union, pussies play in the NFL!

#26 hey asshole, Jack Youngblood broke his left tibia in his leg and played the entire playoffs including the superbowl, and then played in the pro bowl a week after that WITH A BROKEN TIBIA!!!!!!!!. Ronnie Lott had part of his FINGER CUT OFF so that he could go back and finish the game, instead of calling it quits, and having surgery to repair his finger and avoid amputaion. "40 minutes of hard running and bone crunching tackling" HAHAHAHAHA are you serious bitch? Oh thats right "before the saftey rules came into force" if they are so tough why would they (big bad tough rugby players) need saftey rules at all, isnt that stuff for pussies? Rugby is what little kids play before they are big enough to wear pads and do some real damage on the field. Face it rugby players dont wear pads of helmets because they dont hit that hard, how many players have been killed or paralyzed from taking a "bone crunching" rugby hit? i didnt think so. players in the NFL wear pads and helmets because if they didnt too many people would die playing the way they do, if you take away the helmets and pads, then for the sake of their own lives they would be forced to adopt the same lame ass style of "bone crunching" tackles that the homosexuals in this video employ.
#23 the reason people (eurotrash) take every advantage to bash anything american is simple they are jealous of the USA and they always will be, their countries are getting overrun by muslims, and although the act as though they live in a free country, they dont. America is more of a free country than the european trash will ever know and it burns them, its jeaously pure jeaously.

Got to agree with #1 after seeing this vid...
Makes me think about a nice canadian punk/rock group called Simple Plan ... First album they recorded could have been used to describe rugby :
''No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls!''

#29 eat me, i dont care what robert baer writes in his books, and i dont need to read them to help them make descisions about my country and others. his books are fiction, not fact. ever see syriana? do you understand that its not based "on factual events"? do yourself a favor and open up your eyes and pick up a fucking english (thats english spoken language) read it and then talk to me about something, jesus christ i can barley understand what your trying to say, and maybe thats why you think so highly of his books...BECAUSE YOU DONT FUCKING UNDERSTAND THEM or were they translated to some third world country language you speak?

I think the whole comparison between sports is silly. Personally, I play football(soccer), american football, and rugby. I like all of them. I wouldnt consider any one of them more manly than the others. If you think soccer is for pussies, you are stupid, or just dont know the first think about it. If you fall over when a guy tackles you, you get a free kick or a penalty from which you may score. if you dont fall over when a guy tackles you and dont keep possesion, your coach tears you a new one in the dressing room. Thats the game, and thats how you play it. If you dive(go down needlessly, or with the specific intention of getting a cheap free kick) you get a yellow card and that can lead to a ban.
However there are types of tackles that are not allowed, and if you succumb to one you pretty much have to go down or the ref can easily miss it. Its a tactic, the players are not made out of styrofoam. Just like horse shoe tackles are illegal, so are two-footed challenges and tackles from behind in soccer.
You must also understand that soccer is a much more competitive sport just because of the sheer number of teams and players all trying to win, its not a 32 team system. Almost very town in europe has at least one club, each playing between 40 and 60 matches per season.
Personally, I think America is afraid to accept a sport that other countries play at a higher level.
