Most of the bottled water here is actually mineral water with medicinal properties from special hot springs.
I imagine that's why filtered waters like those of coca-cola and pepsi didn't catch up. But still there are number of scare ad campaigns that will probably change that.

they discovered some companies using materials which could cause cancer in the long term .. plus some additives to keep the water crystal clear .. bottled water are known not to be safe to drink after opening the bottle within short time..
but we still use it =P aren't the media really controlling our way of living ..
great video.. thx snotr =)

#(removed comment) I'm from Slovakia (Central europe) and mineral bottled water HERE are from natural sources, they exactly specify the source from where it is. Right now I am drinking http://www.zlatastudna.sk/, water is from here: http://maps.google.com/maps?sll=48.890646,18.489077&sspn=0.042494,0.111494&radius=15000&ll=49.004209,20.894451&spn=0.042398,0.111494
And why do I drink bottled mineral water? Because tap water here have so high chlorine level that it taste really horribly.

#6 Here in Croatia mineral water is from natural sources to but tap water is pure and clean. I always drink tap water, and almost all those plastic bottles are recycled. http://www.jana.com.hr/

Midwest U.S.A. here. Everybody here drinks tapwater (or even better tasting - from the garden hose). Bottled water is a relative rarity, and is usually only purchased when tapwater is not easily accessible (i.e. long trips). The place where I live has a great recycling program and goes directly into producing local plastics.
Interesting vid and good food for thought, but part of the truth is not all of the truth.

In Bulgaria they put chlorine with the shovel... That's why filters are needed ( http://www.brita.net/ ).
However, this documentary could have been more watchable if less screen-time was devoted to cattle...

Im from Australia, and here, it isnt as regulated as tap water because it falls under the category 'medicinal' in the govt. I just finished my degree in geology, and i did a subject on hydrology. I bet most of you who are saying that your bottled water is natural are so ignorant in saying that. Half the rocks that filter this water are laden with heavy metals and salts, for example, a british bottling company opened an extraction facility in india. After 20 years they had dozens of law suits because they didnt test for arsenic in the water they were using and hungreds of people eventually died of arsenic poisining. And its happening all the time, hence now why they must label the bottles with the lab analysis for the constituents. And usually, these are outside the thresholds set by the govt for tap water.

This is the most remarkably stupid video ever.
A movement for "clean safe tap water for all"? Really? Just how are you going to do that? I live on a dirt road with about three other families, out of town at the top of a hill. Do you really want to pay for the miles of lines and pumping stations to get tap water to me and three other families.
Now do that millions of times over. Because more people live in the country than in the cities and towns.
And drinking water is NOT a basic human right. Especially if it requires someone else to be required to work to provide it for you. That's slavery.
If you need it so badly, go get it yourself. In New England, for example, there are public springs right on the side of the road in many places.
"Manufactured demand"
Scaring us
Seducing us
Misleading us
Isn't that how we got Obama and this socialist line of thinking that everything must be provided for everyone?

Well i live in Co.Clare ireland were after the stupid irish built a shit load of houses around this town and the council just saw $$$'s and gave permission to tap in to the water supply that was allready over worked what was the best way to fix this , by adding tons of chlorine , Last summer i filled a back garden pool and after two weeks it still stank of the shit!!!
When i left ireland for holland years ago the water here was lovely and tasted great , now its so full of a calcium it destroys a kettle in a month and its totally rotten , Think the answer is botteled water ....no retards called H20 are selling water filtration systems that well turn the water in to allmost DI-Water and well theres a lot of arguments about this one if its bad or good for you but ill say this its fucking yuck and leaves your mouth DRY gota love idiots and capitalism

"What if that money would be used in improving tap water?"
Dumb bitch, learn some real world economy first... This is how economy works, if not for multi billion dollar industries like bottled water, we would ALL be in chaos and the world economy would have died in the 20s...
And for your information, not because your tap water is good means the rest of the world's tap water is good...
I HATE when people do this kind of campaigns against the "big corporations"... We can all actually see this documentary on a computer because of those "bad guys".
The only industry I do not support is the fast food industry because I think its in fact the same as drugs (they take advantage of people and actually do them harm).

Greed is the cause of ridiculous things like bottled regular water (to call it regular is important because cola, 7up, sprite and what not is also bottled water but can't be compared to tap water). So lets go to the source and put up some rules that one is not allowed to strive for profit. Anything above a certain profit margin should be collected and returned to where it came from in the first place. This will make everyone much more equal and put things into balance instead of this yo-yo effec we now know in economy.

You'd have to be a truly pathetic moron to regularly buy bottled water.

Actually most of teh so called mineral water is manually mineralized. You may think its coming straight from the 400m deep spring water mamba jamba, butactually its normal water with added minerals in it. There are few brands of water that are really spring water , even they are heavily controlled and their mineral levels changed so they can be sold easier. After all noone will drink mass quantieties of water that smells like wrotten eggs (sulfur rich) although its really healthy. I am saying this especially for #6, im living in SK too, but dont believe everything the companies say about their water

For everyone from Sk: Try looking at Korytnica - nice little spa once, but since almost all water is diverted to bottle filling factory, it dies out (all our thanks to Korytnica mineral water company).
The thing that disturbs me most is, that there may be someone who don't already know the point.

Don't tell me how "bad" bottled water is!
In my city tap water can be confused with coffee most of the times, and my mother and grandmother both had kidney stones and rocks because of it.
We have a company right here that sells filtered water, and we buy it, even if we know!

While I'm in total agreement with corporate responsibility, particularly with the built-in redundancy of consumer electronics, I think bottled vs tap water is moot when you consider the human error factor such as in this case http://www.snn-rdr.ca/snn/old/june2000/june2000/e-coli.html

I gave this video a thumbs-down. The lady keeps talking about the villainous bottled-water industry, and so called manufactured demand. It's called free will. What consumers are really buying is the convenience of pre-packaged water.

Her main point, Manufactured Demand
* Scaring Us
* Seducing Us
* Misleading Us
Sounds familiar like other major PR campaigns including Global Warming, et al.

Fortunately, I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana--where the aquifer is filled with clean, soft, and great tasting water!
