I can still use a modem to call my provider, and I also do the faces and try to make the sounds, lol.
#15 And did you also manually cut out corners from your 360kb disks, so you could use them double sided?
And what about internal memory, I remember I've spent a fortune on 16MB memory, yes, no typo, MegaByte. 4 banks of 4MB each. That was pretty much, so I could run Windows 3.11 for workgroups and use Word 2.0 smoothly.

Well, when you turned the modem on and connected to your isp you felt connected to the net for real. You really didnt have much to compare to back then, everyone had a modem and they all were pretty much alike. Wasnt until late 90's broadband started spreading out fast where i live.

That was a small speaker that gave you a audible signal of the actual signal that went over the telephone wire as the connection was made. when the handshake had ended the speaker switched off to avoid you from getting crazy from anything else than the slow connection....

Hey, how about the fancy new computer lab at school in the early 80's - IBM PET (it was a big steel box with a built in keyoard and monchrome monitor)- BASIC programming language, storage medium was a cassette tape in a separate player serial ported into the back. Had to write your own programs or type them in from articles found in computing magazines!!! The rich kids had Commodore 64's at home.
