I know nothing about aviation at this level but thats why I dont think it was all THAT amazing a recovery. Perhaps to someone who pilots themselves but to the average web video viewer... Nah.

Have to agree with 5. Doesn't seem that amazing, touched the water rather slightly. You can also see what he does. As soon as he feels touching the water he tries pulling up which happens to work nicely with a bit of luck.

BTW funny that they all say only a good pilot bla bla. Don't ya think that a good pilot would not have hit the watter in the firs place?

You guys try and hit the water with a plane and keep on flying afterwards. Then we'll talk.

Stop being so thick headed ! Even a surface the size of the monitor you're looking at right now touches the water at that speed it generates so much drag it would be able to take down a 747.

He was lucky the surfaces in contact with the water fell off (right wheel guard) and he was able to correct his flight angle.

#5 and #6 go back to school!

A "good" pilot would not have hit the water

#11, everyone makes a mistake--even the BEST of the best pilots probably have. not everyone can correct that type of error so quickly and accurately, though.

i don't know why you apparently needed that pointed out to you, but there!

#11, according to your logic,
a "good" batter would not strike out.

you've never made one mistake?
Oh, I forgot, you're... "good". ;)

Well, they could at least have shown us the face of the pilot as he was performing this move.
If scared to death, that would have meant that he did not quite rely on his skills.
I guess if they did not shown this sequence, it might be the case o_O

#2 So according to you no THINKING (which is based on training and skills)is necessary, except reflexes? Hm, your logic is ...

#16 You saw him after the escape. He was puffing and panting, looked shook up to me.

Ever skimmed a stone across water? The first impact causes the stone to drag and lose momentum. Take that same stone and throw it wrong, you don't get a skip it just splashes hard into the water and sinks. This guy had to move fast after the first impact to creat that skim effect. Otherwise it was game over and that plane would of smashed hard into the water and probably killed him.

He was lucky it skimmed the water just barely... if it had hit with slightly more force the wing would crack off then the plane would break off into tons of pieces.
