Wow, that's pretty freaky, but quite cool at the same time. Makes me wonder what else is still out there, though to be extinct...
Wow its amazing how they said she was in poor condition now that they moved her out of the ocean and in to a pool ...man goldfish die some times if you throw them from water a few degrees colder or hotter and there supposed to be easy fish to keep
#4 you could be right i know it sounds like that and there excuse is kind of sounding like "oh shit we killed it lets say it was sick anyways"
But saying that a shark thats ment to be at -600m im thinking it was at low depth when they found it and it might have gone to the surface to die anyways.
#7 The woman reporter said it was first spotted by a Japanese fisherman, so it must have already come up from the depths, probably to die. The fact that a scuba diver was in the ocean with it indicates shallow water.
After seeing this freaky shark, I decided to check a couple random vid to wash it off my eyes and stumble upon this one:

did they have to kill it???????????? i'm so mad at these people!!!!! ![]()
Look at its eyes(cataract). It looked really old/dying hence heading up to the surface. Im willing to be it was even blind. Most likely to very old age.
It's amazing how the japanese get hold of something and suddenly it's dead. Seems to happen a lot over there. Perhaps it was research ![]()

here is the topic from Nat Geo. News: Flaring the gills that give the species its name, a frilled shark swims at Japan's Awashima Marine Park on Sunday, January 21, 2007. Sightings of living frilled sharks are rare, because the fish generally remain thousands of feet beneath the water's surface.
Spotted by a fisher on January 21, this 5.3-foot (160-centimeter) shark was transferred to the marine park, where it was placed in a seawater pool.
"We think it may have come to the surface because it was sick, or else it was weakened because it was in shallow waters," a park official told the Reuters news service. But the truth may never be known, since the "living fossil" died hours after it was caught.

#9 thanks for pointing out what i all ready said you muppet next time read the WHOLE comment before posting #27 thanks for looking that one up.
#28 You said "im thinking it was at low depth when they found it and it might have gone to the surface to die anyways."
It seems as though you do not understand the meaning of the things you say. Finding it at "low depth" means very deep water, yet it was said that a fisherman first spotted it,which would mean it was near the surface. In Ireland does low depth mean shallow? See how silly you look now?

japanese have to kill everything to study it ![]()
The Frilled Shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus) is a primitive shark species, sometimes called a "living fossil" because it resembles extinct species of sharks. Frilled sharks are usually found at depths of around 2,000 feet, but this one somehow found its way into shallow water off the coast of Japan, where it was captured and taken to a nearby marine park.

That shark has some scary looking teeth! I wonder what made it come up to the shallow waters where it was found.
