Planes have an Altimeter on their console telling them how high they are off the ground but without the landing gear the pilot had to fly just perfect above the ground and not go too low, he stopped the engine propellers just in time otherwise they would have busted up in pieces that is some good flying!

I bet the sound of the plane grinding on the ground for 20 seconds must have scared the crap out of the passengers in it :D

I have been in aviation for 3 years, and this is kind of awesome. Can't wait for a bigger aircraft like boeing 737 or airbus A320 to land like that. (if they had landing gear problem, not intended to land without the gears)

I believe that pilots are strongly discouraged not to have "engines out" in a case like this... There should be an article about it on www.avweb.com, but can't find it.

Despite my poor english, I think #11 you just made an unwanted double negation...did you mean pilots should NOT turn off engines in a situation like this?

Could you please clarify...and I am interested why, because normally you don't want to make a touch-and-go and when the engine is turned off, you prevent the propeller from turning into supersonic debris.

BTW, I think this person is a relative of Mr. Sullenberger!

#12: Engines should always be running when it is possible.

And if the blades will lick the asphalt, I don't think the engines will explodes in a "Hiroshima-like" blast. The blades will bend - I think that the manufacture-people has thought about that the landing gear can fail :P

Nice landing but I wonder
would the landing be the same with a Big Jet?

Great job. Now they just need a medium sized crane to tow it away from the runway.

#14 in this case there was no turning back. There's no going around once the belly hits the asphalt. The pilot was committed... therefore it was a fantastic decision to shut down the engines. Why destroy the props and engines when they could be saved?
