you'd think that you'd do something mad/something you would usually never do if it is your third crime. Not steal nine tapes or chocolate chip cookies..

In my country working prisoner is richier, then the warden guarding him. :D no joke. Sure warden has bigger salary, but the prisoner has no living costs.

I don't believe this... I mean...the whole "3 strikes and you're out" stuff.
The statistics may be true...but that is not.

think of prostitution. how many times do they get arrested? how many times do kids get arrested? And dose that mean that if you get your 3rd speeding ticked you go to jail for 25 to life? Get real...

The 3 strikes law only applies to violent or felony offenses. So things like assault, murder, that kinda stuff. But thief, depending on the amount it's worth can be a felony.

But more importantly, the numbers that were given about products that prisons put out are no longer correct. If you notice that the show is quite old, almost everything that they said about the products prisons put out is no longer true.

This is a real biased mis-representation of the way the 3 strike system works. Here's a novel idea: If you don't want to fall under that system don't commit ANY crimes!

Murder, rape, cookie theft = Life in prison. Sounds fair enough to me.

Besides all the other errors in this clip, the "3 Strikes" law is only enacted in 24 of the 50 states.

what they don't mention is that these people repeatedly attempt robbery with a gun--at that point it doesn't matter what you steal, you threatened someones life multiple times.

it's nice to make fun of the US prison system without the facts or only partial truths.

What about all the money it takes to keep these bums alive. Don't you think that should been taken into consideration when stating that they are forced to work for $0.24 an hour. I guess we have more people in jails because we don't stone them to death in public.

#(removed comment) Your camparrison of things in Iran run under religious law and civil law in the U.S. does't work. The 3 strike law IS a motivator NOT to be a repeat offender. The problem is law breakers, well, they break the law. However I'll take your point and say yes, under a system that supports capital punishment for adultery if you don't want to be stoned then don't commit the offense. Not that I agree with anything done in Iran or any other country under Sharia law, I don't. The 2 things are just too far apart to make a fair comparrison.

Its a shit system and the stats they point out its utter stupid putting some one in jail for a cookie and all prision and jail does is puts them together with real criminals and they end up on drugs or they end up learning more about crime and half of them end up back in there for the simple reason no one will employ them if they hear they have ever been in jail.

And after this i now understand why there in jail, its slavery and they have the cheek to say shit about china and there workers rights and other country's typical. capitalism at its best yet again

Some countries do not bother with prison....they keep their prison populations down by just taking you outside and putting a bullet in your head or chopping-off your head.
In some Middle Eastern countries just owning a bible can get you the death penalty.

http://www.amnesty.org/en/death-penalty/death-sentences-and-executions-in-2008/mena

PS No one goes to prison no matter how many times they steal a cookie. That whole show misrepresents the US prison system, but some people just want to be sucked-in by that sort of tripe. ( #19 )

because when you're claiming to be the best democraty in the world and want to give lessons to everyone you don't use the same punishments and fear practices then the countries you criticise !!

and by the way again, what nazzi country uses the gas chamber to kill people ??? anyone ????

the USA !!! even after the whole world saw what happened in the nazzi camps !!!

and by the way again again i just come out of jury duty so yes i can tell you it's a big B.S. !!
a waste of taxpayer's money in every way just feeding a dead system...

2:53 - I believe these domestic items are produced by the prisoners via work release. Low risk criminals have the ability to get a job and work while in prison. They are subject to the same labor rights as the rest of the work force including wages. They do not work for $0.25/hour. Hardly slave labor...

Its easy to sit and say "that is wrong, this is how it should be done" when you live in a developed country. Its a different story and a totally different system when you live in a developing country. If an apocalyptic event would occur on our planet do you really believe "laws" would still apply? We're humans for crying out loud. We only care about ourselves. Its just that in our current society we're being held back, by laws, just because we allow ourselves to be held back. The little man has nothing to say, but one must never forget that is the little men that hold up the entire world. If the foundation shakes everything falls. It would be chaos, anarchy, money would have no use. The problem is it will happen, eventually, but for now we're living in a fantasy world.
