Yep, thats soviet union. You had money, but you had no any goods to buy. On each shop there were lines and there was defecit of everything everywhere. Speaking about hamburgers. I eat my first one a few years ago. Some months ago these fast food restorans did get to my city too. Isn't that amazing

You have to understand that during that time, Russians had had decades of experience waiting in lines for any and everything they wanted to buy in soviet Russia. They were professional line waiters by then.

it's like I could count a 300 meter line of couples (more or less), and say having an average of four ppl to each meter-in-line, there could be less than 1500 people all gathered within those 2-and-half minute-clip: wonder how nobody asked increasing town-guards patrolling within that area, that morning 
or they left their uniforms at dry-cleaning, cause it was a Monday

I bet that only happened once , in one door out the other muttering, all that wait for that crap , McDonalds food is some of the most useless crap ever invented , I could eat a ton of hamburgers and still be hungry or i could go to the local pub and get a nice hand made burger that has natural flavor and not this processed crap .

As a person growing up behind the courtain, I can tell you this:
1. Queues were common, so nothing out of the ordinary; I was doing something simmilar almost daily as a kid, and at least this one is during a sunny day... as opposed to a rainy night
2. First time it felt like a bite and a gulp of pure freedom
3. I can guarantee almost nobody left dissapointed (the first time)
4. That queue doesn't even look that scary (if you can imagine that)
No matter what we (ex-communists) say, people who didn't experience the socialist "golden age" cannot REALLY understand what was going in those people's minds. I hope you realize how lucky you westerners are, to be born just a few hundred miles to the west.

Some of you act like these people are being forced to eat at Micky D's. They are there because they want to be. I just wonder if they used beef or horse meat in Soviet McDonalds.

I was there in 1991 and I went to the front of the line and asked how long they waited - 4 hours in line. It was a first glimpse to western fast food - in the evening there was not a wait but people in the day wanted to see it. There are of course tons of Mcs there now like everywhere and business great for the company but tons of Russia fast food and they usual pizza hut and KFC etc.The film brings back memories - Internet almost impossible to stay online at 9600 baud - now it is so much better and cheaper than the USA same for sell phone but back then all was new - very cool - thanks
