at first I thought (F@#k meeeeee it's a long range tazer, space marine zeglin killer!) but then (oh okay you just replaced powder by electric energy).
not as cheap and powerful as powder but GG, nice gun!
I love portal song at the end btw, waiting for the second one!

when does he change DC (supply) to AC (demand)? Seems like a fancy air gun to me, fuck current I want a plasma gun
The beauty of those guns, though low powered as they are now is that they do not need atmosphere, to be shot, no gun powder, no need for oxygen to shoot. Space aaaaage guuun!!!

very very nice object... however since its firing some material "ammos" , i dont really see the point of having it electricity powered... I thought this awesome machine would fire some lightning bolts, that would have totally kicked ass. If someone can help me if there are advantages compared to standards ammos, id like to know.

Maybe a more refined version of something like this would be mounted on a satellite and used to attack other satellites. See #10.
I wonder how much faster the projectiles would go if they were half that size and weight.

#10 & #14 Guns will fire just fine in outer-space since one of the ingredients in gunpowder is saltpeter which acts as the oxidizer for the reaction, meaning that gunpowder does not need air to burn.It creates its own oxygen as it burns.
Hmm, the Steyr AUG has a bullet enery of 1.8kJ and this gun has roughly 2/3 of it, so I expect it to have more penetrating power than seen in this vid.
I would say, the capacitors generate an energy of 1.25kJ but the projectile does have less energy.
I would like to see the gun firing at ballistics gel...so send it to Mythbusters!

#18 This gun has 125kj stored energy but it is only 1-3% efficient at transferring that energy to the projectile. You can not compare this coil gun to a gunpowder fired weapon , they are in a whole different category.
as far as I'm not an expert, it looks like the longer the rail, the faster the bullet: sniper's choice, hence also silent; upon reading comments, weapon seems redundant. possibly meteorological use, eventually.
Who ever made this clip has to have played Unreal Tournament at some stage in his life ![]()
Some strange things in the info thow
I dont believe his 4.6ka even for that short time at 400v its 1.8million watts that coil would last no time.
Its an amazing thing to build but for all the power he claims it has its stopped by glass and a mobile phone ? all he did he was made a silent air gun that fires stupidly heavy projectiles with very little transfer of power.
If it was to have any chance of doing damage it should have been a multi stage with more than one coil at least then the power transfer would be better and would give the "bullet" more time to speed up and actually do some damage

Woop the only thing i found cool about this was the portal song at the end lol
I would've liked to see a human analogue fired at (i.e. a pig (dead, of course) or something close). It's kinda hard to see lethality when you're shooting at plastic and thin metal. Even BBs can penetrate those surfaces.

If kids can do these kinds of things nowadays then don't tell me that the most advance military in the world doesn't have things that would wake you up at night.
#28 for at least half-a-decade now, the microwave laser-projected gun to keep you at-distance, while pinching through the clothes and give you a burning-like sensation, and microwave movement sensor to picture you through walls: both can be noised down if you can afford the device (just like installing your own radar-detection device into your car). ..here, those bullets come to be too large for actual war application, so it won't work in the field, that's why I'm saying meteo carrier assigned purposes: unless fitted for an umbrella launcher and poison-spilling pee-sized round pallets (which is rather old fashioned, already).
