How much experience will be lost when this generation has passed away.
A shame if we do not remember their stories and what they told us.

War: what is it good for?

the song he plays goes:

"Vor der Kaserne,
Vor dem grossen Tor,
Stand eine Laterne
Und steht sie noch davor.
So woll'n wir uns da wiederseh'n,
Bei der Laterne woll'n wir steh'n,
Wie einst, Lili Marleen."

#1 "those who don't remember the past are condemned to repeat it"
in my country like in all other countries, people have very short memory
it's a shame, we should all remember it... :(

At that time Germany was the country that made wars.

At present it is AMERICA.
Although americans just look at the news and think OH EVERYTIME IS GOOD life is amazing.
why else do the deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan get covered and all we hear is about the deaths of the soldiers

Yes, this was a very, very well done/said/acted video and heart-felt. Yes, humor can be spotted in all things no matter how serious they appear to be. Humor is universal and cosmic as much as music is such according to this soldier.

#5 its Fumble's , And #13 I think you need a history lesson it was called World War II not Germany started it , You also do not make a war you start one.

And I allways hate the fact they go on and on about how many people hitler killed while the americans dropped 2 A-bombs and killed hundreds of thousands of people instantly.

Yes, this was a very, very well done/said/acted video and very heart-felt. Yes, humor can be spotted in all things no matter how serious they appear to be. Humor is as universal and cosmic as music is and both are as equally necessary to the joy of life. Let's just get along here and enjoy each others' comments.

Never underestimate the power of music. The pen might be more powerful than the sword, but nothing is stronger than what gets us in touch with our true feelings.

We like to see things in black and white, because it makes life easier most of the time. But the truth is, in one way or another we all live in that huge grey area and we could fall off the wagon at any time. It is the ability to realize that and the ability to think about it, which saves us in our darkest moments.

I have the greatest respect for this man. It takes incredible strenght to be able to see a potential friend instead of an enemy, especially in his position. This is how you truly win against hatred: Get these people in touch with their human side and help them escape from their extremist beliefs instead of fueling them with unnecessary wars. The best way to win a war is not starting it and help people get what they need (food, water, medical aid, technology, purpose) instead of what the extremists want (conflict).

Always remember: Wars only work because we are afraid of the unknown and because we forget that every offender could be a victim himself, no matter how hard it is to imagine.

#15 Actually Germany did start the World War 2 by entering Poland the 1. September 1939, which caused England and France to declare war on Germany two days later. I think you are the one who need a history lesson!
The Invasions made by Germany, Japan and Italy, before did not start the world war, because no one other than the invaded countries declared war on either Italy, Japan or Germany.
___________

I think this is a great story. In a world where the only thing you see is death and destruction, it must be very emotional to hear him play, espacially for the germans, because that specific song meant a lot to them.

#15 yes you know what I meant Germany.

now i don't know much about Obama.
But bush and Tony Blair were like the Modern day Hitlers.
You can add David Cameron to the list.

The truths about the deaths were leaked on wiki leaks.
And the guy that released them was condemned for doing so.

You can go read about it but The truth is Not many people care which I think is sad.

Not much difference between the natzis and American governments.

and then people wonder why terrorists target their countrys...

What the Crap people??? War is unfortunate, It sucks that it happens. However, if someone is going to come into my house and threaten to kill me and my family, I'm going to do something about it.

Are you just going to let people who think they are better than you take your loved ones, and do what ever they want with you??
I do not agree with the offensive part war, but the Defensive part of war is a part of keeping people alive and must be done. Unfortunately there are evil people in the world, and we must protect others and ourselves from them (Watch Braveheart).

I'm not making reference to any particular war, just the principle of it.

#13 You are so ignorant and you never let the facts get in the way of your ridiculous assertions. Thank goodness your forbears had the good sense that you seem to have missed out on.
Do you realize that England went to war with India in the 1800's just to steal India's cotton industry? No , of course you don't. No country in modern times has been as power hungry and enslaving as the UK.

In time, sadly, our children's children will experience the same thing... Just be glad you might have been born in a time where you werent involved in a war. However war itself can unite people in those countries, it can be a great thing, as shown in the past. It can also be a horrible event depending on which side you are on. If you ask me peace is just as bad as war as there is always someone planning a new war somewhere during peace.

#15 And then there was the infamous Rape of Nanking where atrocities committed by Japan took the lives of over 300,000 Chinese civilians in just seven weeks at the hands of the brutal and sadistic Japanese army.
And of course the hundreds of thousands of slave laborers in Indonesia that died at the hands of the Japanese.
What goes around,comes around.
Civilians get killed during wartime,it is a fact.
Even England lost about 45,000 civilians early in the war due to Germany bombing London and other cities thinking they could bomb them into submission.

On two Japanese populated islands (Saipan and Okinawa) that had recently been invaded the reactions of Japanese civilians was to actively assist the Japanese troops. There would have been much more killing if the main island was invaded.

At least the two nuclear bombs did finally end the war in the Pacific and appeased the Chinese enough so that they relented in their determination to eradicate the Japanese from the face of the earth.

USAnumber1
Your country is hated all over the world.
Why do back to what Japan did a long time ago.

America is killing innocent people even today,
Even now In Iraq, Afghanistan.

Your country sucks cock and it is only a matter of time before someone has enough and nukes your fat asses.

#34 For a country that is hated it is interesting that every US Embassy in the world has foreign people lining up to apply for travel and sanctuary in America.

Chubby boy,you are evidently young and dumb (too much pot ) and have no idea of what you speak and no experience to back it up. Do you think the US is the only country fighting the Islamic fanatics? The UK has been right there with us for the last 10 years, although as usual the US troops do the heavy lifting. The Taliban and Al-Qaeda kill many more civilians on purpose than the Allies do by accident.
From the internet,a list of the major forces in the war:

United States – 78,430
United Kingdom – 10,000
Germany – 4,590
France – 3,750
Italy – 3,400
Canada – 2,830
Poland – 2,630
Romania – 1,750
Turkey – 1,740
Spain – 1,555
Australia – 1,455

Can't stand a dose of the truth, can you badbreath.
