Mr.Attenborough taught me that Octopuses (or Octopi .. w/e) care for their eggs until they are hatched, starving themselves and pumping fresh water supply to their eggs for fresh oxygen. When the eggs hatch, the mother octopus is likely to be dead or on the verge of death, and her corpse becomes the food for the baby hatchlings. The crab probably knew there would be a big spawn of fresh baby octopuses and guarding the pot to get its next big feast. Awesome footage! But dam! Leave the poor mother octopus alone :'(

At first I read the description while the movie was loading. I was really interested of the great play of words to describe it. Then after I watched it, it actually meant it very literally lol.
