fingers from climbers must be so powerful... sometime they dont have a proper "hole" to grab, they just kinda put their hand on the rock without really grabbing anything and use that as a traction source... just wow
#6 you can find videos of some climbers doing one fingered pull ups while their finger is in a crevasse...insane finger strength (that's what she said)

#10 Really? How do they stretch and contract then? How can we move them at all?
#10 and why do my fingers (and those from other climbers) grow thicker...tendons dont't grow thicker that amount so there have to be muscles as well!
There are very small amounts of muscles in the fingers. The amount, however is not sufficient for climbing. #13 is correct. Fingers, in this case, will "grow" larger because the different tissue types found in the fingers will increase the more you use them. For example, white fibrous connective tissue (connects muscles to bone); Aerolar connective tissue (the elastic stuff that connects one tissue to the other-this is why you can pull your skin away from you, then it goes back into place.) And of course the bone.
The more you pull on the bones and put pressure on them, they will get thicker and stronger (more minerals get deposited). As is the case with most tissues in the body. The most widely know case of this is when you wear out your muscles, they will compensate by getting bigger. (not enough room to discuss the molecular reactions here) This also happens (in a matter of speaking) with neurons, the more you learn, the easier it will be to learn.
