We're tracking a hurricane that is over the Greater Antilles and will be moving up the Eastern US and will be over Adamant, Vermont by tomorrow...........
It's an ant death spiral. It only occurs in army ants and they get confused following the scent of the leader. They will keep turning until they die of exhaustion.

NO no no it's a Micro black hole... the ants that were going along it's path were getting sucked up into it's gravity.. put some bbs around it and they will go around it too...
ok JK but this is fuckin awesome I wish I knew why they did this
There must be a milky way chocolate that they are eating in the center and they are celebrating....
Get it....milky way galaxy.....chocolate... ![]()
Put some salt... or onion... and there you have solved ( disrupted) their "confused scent" thing!!!
Because ants don't like to walk on salt...!
Another use of salt...www.saltinstitute.org
Strange .....First time i saw that kind of thing
Did someone heared about it in Weather reports ??
I dunno about the rest of you, but all I can think of as I look at this is that its never been a better time for a can of hair spray and a lighter...

#26 Ok being a biologist I will try to provide however basically wikipedia said it all...
As you probably know, ants have extremely poor sight and navigate by pheromones (scent) of their fellow ants, usually forming roads and routes from food sources to the nest. There are, however, ant species which are nomadic in nature and do not build nest, in laymans terms, army ants. These ants can form gigantic torrents of ant bodies all following special scout ants to find a safe path (these army ants, e.g african driver ants, are very interesting in their own right if you wanna google em).
sooo in this case these poor formicidae lost track of the swarm and lost the pheromone trail. not knowing where to go, the front ones stopped, getting overtaken by the ones behind them and then following THEIR pheromone trail. this can repeat many times, forming a circular motion causing each ant to follow the one in front until they die.
