its not exactly fair. the plane generates that much more speed going down than the car would flat out. still awesome!!!

great race, 2 things could be different. the plain could try to land but better yet the race could be on a elliptical and horizontal trajectory for the place

Although the Veyron will always be my favorite, the Utimate Aero is going to give it a run for the money! The Aero may be lighter and faster, but the Veyron has class and style. Let's face-off these 2 fine machines!! Check out the Aero at... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHk03WWhlNg.

Are you nuts? That is one of the coolest videos I have ever seen. It's not completely realistic, since the speed and acceleration and turning ability of both can be completely maniupluated by distance, direction and inertia. One thing I noticed was that if the plane travelled one mile up, it didn't come back one mile. It cut an angle to the finish line. But who cares? That was just really cool! I want to be behind the controls of either one of them!

I enjoyed the video. I would have like a little commentary on the jets speed up and down. Also, what were the individual times. All that, I really like the race.

Wow! The Veyron has a top speed of 254 m.p.h. It should have won this contest. Either the driver or the car had a problem getting past 196 m.p.h. Too, bad!

Rich come on now...do the math and you will understand why the Veyron did not get over 196 m.p.h. even though I think by the time he passed the finish line he was pushing 200 m.p.h. but no more than that because of simple math.
The Veyron can reach a speed of 150 M.P.H. in just under 10 seconds (9.8 is the published time to 150) but that may or may not be true because it does the quarter mile in 10.2 at 143 miles per hour. So which number is right? I don't know but to give them the benefit of the doubt we will say 150 in 10 seconds. It reportedly can reach 200 miles per hour in just over 24 seconds. Now after a quarter mile this car needs to accelerate another 104 miles per hour to reach its top speed.
200 miles per hour in 24 seconds...reportedly 24.2. At 200 miles per hour that is one mile in about 18 seconds but that is if it started out at 200 miles per hour. We must remember that the car has to get up to speed first. The Veyron has been reported doing a quarter mile from a dead stop in 10.2 seconds at 143 miles per hour (or 10 seconds to 150). Not bad for a production car but it kind of lags for a near 1000hp car. It will take the Veyron another 14 seconds to be in the 200 mile per hour range. If there were a brick wall at the end of that 1 mile stretch of runway he would have smashed that cute little car in a million pieces long before he ever saw 254 miles per hour.
It is simple mathematics speed=distance/time (rearrange the formula if you need to) that is why the top speed of 254 M.P.H. had no bearing on this race it was all about acceleration.
The only thing that would have won this race for the car would be better acceleration. 0-100 in 5.5seconds does not help in this race but if it could do 0-200 in 11 seconds that would help and the car might have won.

Great Race.
#8 suggested an emergency brake turn at the one mile turnaround. The car would most likely flip over due to the high traction between tires and runway. Runways are not like streets ... they are extremely rough.

flat out any car vs a fighter, even a pussy euro one, is going to loose. the car might be doing close to 200 but that jet can probably dive at twice without the pilot hardly feeling it. and to think if they'd tried that vs a raptor, the car would most likely be starting the return trip as the F-22 finished the run.
and in response to our friend who spoke of the battle of england (battle of britain) was that at one point, one single german plain accidentally let part of it's bomb load go over a civilian area. england responds with the bombing of everything and in return germany changed from a strategic bombing plan for a to hell with the british one. if the germans had not done this, then the decimated raf would have been totally annihilated, closely followed by the invasion of england. winning that battle wasn't much more than just dumb luck.

absolutely awesome. the typhoon is the hottest thing in the air. of any country. the bugatti is pretty spectacular too!. i salute the brits. can you imagine the US giving permission to do this race? not in a million years.

Now if they had used an American Top Fuel dragster, it would have been no contest. A current NHRA Top Fuel car is capable of accelerating from a standing start to over 300 mph in less than 5 seconds in a quarter-mile. The Top Fuel car would no doubt reach a top speed in excess of 500 mph in a mile (depending on which final drive gears were installed). Also- a Top Fuel car stops with the aid of a pair of 16-ft. crossform chutes, which beats disc brakes and a chintzy spoiler any time. I maintain that if the Top Fuel dragster could release it's two chutes at the end of the first mile and make the turn, it would beat that Euro-fighter by at least 5 seconds+ to the finish line. (PS, Ihave not flown a Typhoon, but I HAVE driven a dragster, so I am quite familiar with its performance capabilities.

The contest should have required the plane to be ON THE DECK at the start/finish line. That would have been a true contest.

It's a freakin' JET for crying out loud, what would you expect, it will break the sound barrier, ya know like over 700 miles per hour! The jet came back at an unfair angle anyway. A fun idea anyway....nice car!

This is nothing more than BS, things do not always are what they portray them to be. If you watch carefully most of the portions of the fighter going up and down are simple and stinky computer graphics, a la Pearl Harbor monstruosity starring Ben Affleck (remember that piece of crap, well this is another one).
Want another hint, well if the portions going up and down were true it means that somebody else was filming from another Eurofighter, right, well there are ain't any doing that.
Good bye suckers. If you still believe that this is true, then I have some property in Florida that I want to talk to you about, great location, low prices, just cash up front and sight unseen, OK?.
