#2 its not a sport... its one occasional entertainment like throwing logs, or husband carrying wife race... just for the fun.

#2 you say redneck, but this 'sport' has been practised by Frysians for over a milennium. It was first used by farmers to leap small channels to get from field to field.
I have done this once, and it was fun and an excercise. Therefore it's a sport :-)

I understand that fast climbing and jumping properly is the key in doing this but to me it looks like the hardest part now is the landing. Looks like 5 or 6 meters (6 yards) of free fall into sandy ground. IMHO they should make the landing zone softer to get better records now.

#10 the landing is a bunch of sand. what could be softer?! this takes some serious skill to do. i know i couldn't get a foot up that pole.
