Beriev Be-200

Crazy lookin plane...

Four retractable water scoops, two forward and two aft of the fuselage step can be used to scoop a total of 12 tonnes of water in 14 seconds
it can scoop water while skimming the water surface at 90-95% of takeoff speed...

I would of thought this plane was a recently new model if I hadn't looked it up... hard to believe the first prototype was made in 1998 :| I live in California n its too bad I haven't seen these putting out mountain fires

uggghhh used to water bombers. they're always flying around where i'm from fighting forest fires. these are obviously a bit different, but same thing.

Uhmmm. Forget the holding water stuff. Why can't it hold 250 passengers on open ocean flights? I'd feel a lot better on my trips over ocean if I knew the plane could land on water.

The difference i've noticed is that general planes have exhaust below their wings whereas these M.purpose have them above the wings.
