It's damn tricky to out-run the law in one way street roads...

And holy shit are you kidding me 3 years + 20 months?? If it was L.A. as soon as that dude backed up and hit the officer on the bike about 30+ rounds would immediately be unloaded on his ass...

doesn't matter who you are getting inside a vehicle you are in control of a deadly weapon... with great power comes great responsibility, don't you Brits at least watch our movies?

in US they use shotguns to break windows. Much more effective.

the police should be allowed to use deadly force to deal with shit like that

#3 "shit like this" could be anything. deadly force is a bit too much for, let's say, a kid who robbed some candy at a grocery - the police could claim anything.

don't get me wrong, i'm just as annoyed by this shitbag as you are, but the law is (and should be) "blind".

#4 ... to some degree I agree with you, but its a far cry from comparing to talk about "a kid who robbed some candy...." ... when he hits the policebike its just close to as firing a gun. He could easily killed the cop if things went bad, this "shit like that" did have no hesitation or care at all if he would have caused serious or fatal injury.
But I am surprised that British cops don't have the tool to smash a carwindow!? ... with a small tool its just a light knock on the window and its shattered in pieces... :S

Some comments here are scary. :S

On topic.

There was a civilian next to the car thief, use of deadly force could hurt or killed the civilian.
The reason I think it went a bit out of control is that the camera-car could have blocked the car thief like the policecar did in the end.

"Police in Slough have spotted another stolen car" ... that sums it up really!
Usually windows break a lot easier when police hit it with their baton, not sure why these windows withstood such a beating :S

#3 British police are not armed with firearms. They can't use deadly force.

If this had happened in the US, the other cop car would not have been needed. When he backed into the motorcycle the first time it would have been a death sentence right there on the spot. Game over.

i think they were too harsh on him I mean hitting his car to break the windows thats just savage's work. they should have followed him nicely tell he arrives home an say please can you come with us pleaaaaaase.

bull shit thats just bull shit. police officers lives should never be compromised for civilians. other wise more civilians would get injured. stop over protecting criminals.

#1 no they do not watch anything from the usa only Australian tv and real crap uk tv shows like the bill and meny others .#6 if you lived where cops had no guns you would know what it feels like to be safe ,
a little flash light should do the job of smashing a window but i do hate to tell you that the car had custom windows you can see them hitting the window with the flash light's and no brake

#10 laws...if the cops do not follow the laws there would be no laws at all and no need for pigs aka cops .
no matter where you live the law stats you may only fire your gun on someone who is holding a gun/knife or any deadly weapon ,if its a toy gun that looks so real that the cops think its real well 99% of the courts would back the cop up for doing his job, but no gun and cop shoots well bye bye copper you are going where you have been sending people for a long time

Unlike the US where police pull and fire their weapons at any provocation, police value civilian life differently in many countries. This is a good thing. The police officers didn't seem to be upset that they didn't kill the idiot and maybe if you were this guys father, mother, brother, sister or friend you would feel the same.

If it occured in US and he recovered from his gunshot wounds, our “justice” system would have charged him with 10 different charges and sentence him to thirty years because officers were involved but let a drunk driver serve five years for killing a family of four.

I like how cops in Asia and Europe catch you and beat you up as oppose to cops in America who shoot you 47 times for reaching for your driver license :S

actually the cop wasn't ran over as the title suggests. and then why they did not use the car with the video to block the guy in the tunnel and awaited for another one to arrive?

20 months for running down a cop and stealing a car in uk
wow !!!!
in other countries they would give you 20 years but most likely a bullet in the head!!!!

Ummm, did anyone else think that at 0:48 the cop was either going to have his throat crushed or nearly be decapitated between the bumpers of the cars? That is an extremely lucky man to not be dead.

As far as only drawing a gun in the face of a deadly weapon ie knife or a gun? Well, it sure as hell looked to me like the driver was using his car as a deadly weapon. The way he was driving could have caused any number of fatal accidents, and he showed no hesitation backing into that officer or plowing into that other car.

As for the innocent(?) passenger (of a stolen car), if the officers had guns on them, then common sense would state that they've had appropriate training... which would mean they wouldn't unload blindly into the car. A trained officer isn't going to take a shot unless it's a clean one. Not only that, but it's just as likely that they might have used the guns to take out the tires to keep the guy from flying back and forth.

This wouldnt even happen in US to begin with. The guy wouldnt even have made it to the car in one piece. Thanks to minority report the police in US know what you're going to do before you do it!

It always amazes me how dumb most people are (especially the Americans waving their guns around). No perspective what so ever.

- Should someone be shot just for stealing a car?! NO!! But that is what most of you are calling out for.
- Ran over a cop!? NO!! Just pushed him back a few yards at rather low speed. Really got annoyed when the voice said life threatening situation. Such a bullshit, you would be in bigger trouble if you were to fall out of a tree. Perspective people!
- Losing ur freedom for more than 3 years for misbehaving what 30-60min. Thats not peanuts but quite a long time. No you idiots want to lock this guy up for 20 years or more. Perspective people!!

Some of you people sound as though you have been on the wrong side of the law and now hate cops....you know who you are.
A car is a deadly weapon when it is used to run into someone and that bike-cop is just fortunate that the perp was only trying to back-up far enough to make another run at blowing past the car in the tunnel. The driver of the car is lucky that a CO19 unit was not involved since they carry H&K MP5 sub-machine guns. Upon backing into the bike-cop he would probably have been shot.

#12 You just put a big smile on my face, its hard to wipe it off - only making me ROFL and PMSL over & over! :D :D :D "if you lived where cops have no guns..." - sorry but I spend most of my time where cops do not have guns. And partly where cops have guns i.e. across the Nordic countries. And have lived some years in the US as well so I'm a bit alienated about triggerhappy US cops. Its like in Europe, differs between states or nations. In some European nations the carthief would have looked like a tour in a meatgrinder, and in others he would be cuffed and put in the slammer without being misstreated. And what I experienced in the US was about the same, there are serious and devoted men and women of law there as
well who are not behaving like uniformed street-thugs.
#19 - what you mention about car as a deadly weapon - exactly my point so I agree with you to 100% :)

Cop with the white shirt/black vest: drop the stick and pick up a rock next to the road. It'll do a hell lot better job than whatever he was trying to do.

If they didnt chase him they would not have created this problem and no lives would have been endangered, just a lost car which the insurance company would have covered anyway.
