Haha this must be a public place and the guy shoveling must really know his landscape... I think it's pretty important to pave out the way in the snow because people could be walking over some steps or obstacles and fall over and get hurt etc.... The prankster knew where everything was though so it seems like he paved a safe way for people to... get lost in 
And while they are walking in the snow they are just focused on the path they are in because everything around them is just WHITE so it's easy to see how they all literally walked right into the trap.

So setup , no one who lives in a country with this much snow fall would bother turning back like that come on , but it was funny the sound effects were great
