No I doubt they are doing it just to be macho it seems like some sort of police training of some sort and most cops or authority, military personnel etc. have to go through this training to be able to handle it in real situations.

I think they do this to increase their tholerance to peper spray.Some prisoners have so high tolerance, that thay dont feel it at all...

Makes it easier to flip off those who think they are using too much violence and saying stuff like " pepperspray is too cruel" then they can go "ive been sprayed with pepper spray, its not that big of a deal" and keep spraying people in their faces.

I was once in pepper sprayed room by playing paintball. I though it is just smell of some sort some granade, but turned out is not. Next thing I was coughing as hell outside trying to hold the waves of vomiting. You learn the value of fresh price less air.

This is like "Think about it before using it" training , now they know how bad it is they might think twice before using it on some kid whos just being a dick
