Car scams are huge! I see them all the time on craigslist... sometimes they are so pathetic, it makes me laugh! Seeing how they interviewed people, i would assume that they gave the money back and told them what to look for in a scam. So don't be haten' the makers of this film.

I've been trying to sell a truck on Craigslist, and somebody tried to scam me with a fake Paypal email saying they've sent $3250.00 to my Paypal, and before i can receive it i need to pay the shipping fee of $800 and the transaction will be complete.. If you are trying to sell a car on Craigslist don't fall for anything that sounds suspicious like that!

This is a great scam with only one huge problem that is avoided here. Where do you "borrow" an empty house with an open garage in which to pull the scam? Without that, it wouldn't work.

I agree with #6, except to say that this isn't a great scam. It's just nonsense. An empty house with garage which you just happen to be able to 'borrow'? Who did they borrow it from, and what will that person say when the police come calling? Oh and don't forget about the car, a rental? Where did they rent it from? In my country you need to show id, driving licence and credit card to be able to rent a car. Nice easy trail there for the police to follow when the car isn't returned to the car rental depot. All in all, a real lame video, made to entertain dimwits. Next?

#6 and #7, let me give you a clue ;)

first, you find a house to break into, the one wich you know is empty ( owners on vacation or whatever )

second, you rent a car, you can use a fake id and driver license ( if you are living on this planet you know how easy you can get them ) and pay with cash
you won't tell me that in your perfect country you can't rent a car with cash, do you?

Hey #10. Is your middle name 'Naive'?
First. You'll notice that the house they chose is in a busy neighbourhood, surrounded by lots of other houses. So, finding an empty house, breaking in and quickly pocketing valuables before silently slipping away is one thing, but breaking in, opening up the garage, parking your stolen car in there and hanging around for hours while entertaining prospective car buyers isn't going to get the neighbours interested? LOL.

Second. I think you watch too many cop and robber movies with lame scripts. Fake IDs can be bought from joke shops, but all they'll fool are idiots such as yourself. Car hire companies run very tight checks before letting go of a $12,000 car. If it was rent-a-banger we were talking about, then you'd be able to pick up a smoker for fewer checks and a cash deal, but if you really think you'll get a car like the one shown without a valid credit card to take print off, then you clearly have never actually rented a car.

I hope that's cleared things up for you. If you're still confused, put your concerns in an email and send it to yourself, with the subject line: 'Dear Imbecile'.

#11 oh, right :D i forgot, you are living in a perfect country :D
or you are not reading a newspaper or watching the news, i can give you a few links just for your education :D

but first you need to find some professional help, your inferiority complex will get you in to trouble one day :D

#12 He is right, actually. I live in Germany, I have rented cars here, in Italy, Poland, the UK and Sweden and never went without valid ID, signature and credit card validation. If you try to rent a car for CASH ONLY without ANY validation you'r being scammed yourself because the car is stolen.

I dont know about the rest of europe but our ID's are really hard to fake. Will probably cost you a bit.

Although I really dont like the #11 guy he is totally right on this subject

#13 i know a case where a guy sold a rented apartment 5 times :D

bottom line is, situations like this one are happening in real life and that is all i'm trying to say ;)

#14. I'm pleased you've finally realised you are wrong. Oh and thanks for the advice regarding professional help. When I feel the need for professional help of any kind, I will always take it. That makes sense. But as far as inferiority complexes go, please don't worry; I don't have one. Neither do you actually. You simply ARE inferior. :D

Its all down to one thing , Stupid people , Who on this planet with a single brain cell , would hand over that kind of money with out some kind of insurance . I would simply say take my word ill be back or no deal.

People who get caught by scams like this usually deserve it for being greedy and stupid anyways.

The car isn't actually sold at all. The scammers receive a payment and afterwards return the rental car.

#19 hit it right on the head. none of those victims wrote down the vin number, there was no plates to identify it, its just a red car. Return it at the end of the day and no one will be the wiser. and if you do this in detroit, you have your pick of empty properties. with the mortgage crisis there are plenty of homes available. BRB, off to enterprise :D

#10 that was a fairly americ-tarded thing to say. Its not as easy to get fake documentation on most of planet earth as it is on "planet america".

Im surprised these guys hand over cash for nothing, they all look young so probably a first car in most cases. They may not have known about the owners book or registration. Still pretty stupid though.

#22 "fake id" was just something to show how "i'm trying to be smart" comments #6 #7 an #11 are :)
i mean, they have noticed only the most irrelevant parts :D

as you pointed out, whole story is about how easy you can trick people and how ignorant they can be

I don't buy the "borrowing an empty house" thing a single second either.
This show stinks fake situations and sensationalism. Easy TV for the masses.

Seriously, turn it off, put it in the dumpster.

A good joke always lightens ones' mood....

A CASE OF IRISH ALZHEIMER'S

Murphy showed up at Mass one Sunday and the priest almost fell down when he saw him. He'd never been to church in his life. After Mass, the priest caught up with him and said, "Murphy, I am so glad ya decided to come to Mass. What made ya come?"

Murphy said, "I got to be honest with you Father, a while back, I misplaced me hat and I really, really love that hat. I know that McGlynn had a hat just like mine and I knew he came to church every Sunday. I also knew that he had to take off his hat during Mass and figured he would leave it in the back of church. So, I was going to leave after Communion and steal McGlynn's hat."

The priest said, "Well, Murphy, I notice that ya didn't steal McGlynn's hat. What changed your mind?"

Murphy replied, "Well, after I heard your sermon on the Ten Commandments, I decided that I didn't need to steal McGlynn's hat after all."

With a tear in his eye the priest gave Murphy a big smile and said; "After I talked about 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' ya decided you would rather do without your hat than burn in Hell?"

Murphy slowly shook his head. "No, Father, after ya talked about 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' I remembered where I left me hat."

#23 yes i didnt mean to discredit the point you were making, but I didnt like the ignorance of your statement. Experience some other cultures, it will blow your mind how different things are in other parts of the world. For example, your "world series" involves one country, while in my country the "national championship" involves teams from three countries. Not having a go, just diferent.

#10.
i know but what 6 and 7 said about (driving licence and credit card to be able to rent a car.)
the main id you need is also a passport good luck getting one of them that's legit
in Australia you will get busted so fast its not funny with a fake passport (Australia runs things a bit more tight ass to the rest of the world

as for finding a house not hard at all (realestate.come) that and you have every thing else you want
USE a fake name for the sale >:)

#27 You might like to notice that #23 dushan is from Serbia , not the US. You may need to change you comments towards him and his experience.
Also you are wrong about the World Series. Have you never heard of the Toronto Bluejays from Canada? They have been playing Major League Baseball since 1977. They have won at least two World Series. Why don't you send your country's baseball team over to compete against the North American teams? They would be welcome to play.

Well the scam itself could, and probably does, work, but not this way. First of, getting into a house is not hard. For instance those for sale. However, only an idiot would buy a used car without a test drive. Neighbors would say "wth is going on here" after the second test drive. With that, why do all these people agree to come at 6? If I was happy with getting the car, I would say, "okay, drive me to my house, ill get the money and hand it to you". If you really want the car, why are you waiting for it all day then? Finally, half of these comments are about IDs, why? Believe me, just because you got scammed out of $500 doesn't mean the world will start searching. Even if the police found out it was a rental (which they wont), they wont waste their time trying to find that car. Getting a warrant for the persons info to rent it (which is confidential). Getting a warrant for the person. Etc.
