not necessarily a bad idea for an advertisement, it's just that they're targeting an M rated game to a T audience. obviously teens would play this regardless, but EA doing so is 1) immoral and 2) really controversial, which i guess is what they're after.
it's stuff like this that set back the gaming medium behind stereotypes and prevent the public eye from seeing what gaming can achieve: art. i'm extremely ineloquent, watch the extra credits episode dedicated to this topic, really interesting.

Agree with #11
This type of advertising perpetuates a negative stereotype and a mindless misconception.
A large factor in the mothers not liking this game is that they are not the target audience. You would not get teens to test early learning tools....
A large part of the dissent towards games is that the medium is relatively new. Mothers(generally) have only a third hand experience of video games, whereas they would have grown up with violent films and literature. It is easier to blame the first thing you do not understand for your fears rather than try to actually deal with a problem.
It is human nature to attempt to suppress any part of society that you do not belong to, rather than attempt to integrate with it. I think this is a dangerous thing. This "conservative america" sounds like a scary place. Its not enough that you just dont like something, you must also go on record labeling it an "evil weapon". Everyone believes themselves to be an expert? I bet zero of them had psycology degrees....
Typically only those who know nothing about games think they are bad, the same goes for most things. Anything you believe to be a negative effect of video gaming will be corrected for you by anyone who has done research(though it will probably be rejected by anyone who dislikes the truth)

Welllll (and a couple of more ellls...
As much as I wouldn't like to admit that although they have no idea of what their talking about.. kind of.. and their presenting it very shallow.. and the presented mom couldn't even back up her stance.. they're probably more right than us... Video games ultimately are DEMONIC MIND EXPLODING .. not so much .. but their quite a waste of time.

Stupid piece of advertising.
First, it started to be shown just before the game was released, most of the communication was done already, and the first game was good enough to be remembered by people. Most of the gamers I know were already looking forward to it months before. The game didn't need this.
Then, who's the target for this ad? It is supposed to be a rated M game, or 18+ in Europe. Which player would need his/her mother's agreement to play it? Either EA is openly targetting a younger audience than it should, or something doesn't make sense here.

I liked the idea behind this, but the way it was presented, it sends the wrong message: EA doesn't care about how this game might affect kids who should not play it. Or may be that is actually the right message and we all just need to stop buying EA's games. I'm with The Escapist magazine. This game is for adults and should not be marketed as childish rebellion.
