More like brain washing the kids to the max. How can they say that Fukushima incident isn't as serious as Chernobyl or 3 mile island!!! when you still have to vacate a huge area for probably hundreds of years in a relevantly smaller country. I believe its far worse for the Japanese citizens as compared to the US or Russian people effected.

I can't believe the nerve of some people, #1 and #2 are right. This is basically brainwashing children into a false sense of security.

It's not as serious as Chernobyl. Because that blew up! Besides, we always brainwash Children.

If you read between the lines you will see what they are trying to say is that Fukushima is truly in the shit.

JapaneseKid2: I know! Drink sea water! I saw on the TV yesterday that it helps you hold it back just like they did it with Nuclear Boy!

#6 Its not as bad as chernobyl. but the reactor at chernobyl didnt blow up either.

that what be a huge catastrophe. it was open - if it would have truly exploded... far worse.

this sure is an odd way to warn of danger

#2 The Three Mile Island accident did not cause any noticable environmental contamination or health risks to the people in surrounding communities. Evacuations were temporary and done just to make sure radiation levels were safe.
Comparing TMI to Chernobyl is like comparing a fire cracker to a grenade.

#11 You better check again, there was an explosion at Chernobyl when the reactor vessel ruptured and a series of explosions occured. While that is not the same as a nuclear detonation , it was still powerful enough to blow the building apart.

Some of you seems to think its wrong to "brainwash" the children. But really I think the video more explains the situation in a good way.

What does it matter if you calm the children down? I mean really. Its not like japan will gain anything from having all the children worrying too.
Calming them down is a good thing, it wasen't like the video didn't bring up the problems or risks that might happen.

#10 You probably just forgot Three mile Island... But also seeing that France is the highest user of nuclear power, they are quite at risk. And the japanese are famous for being really well responsable for their security. So if that happened to Japan, it could quite easily happen anywhere else...

How this can qualify as brainwash? probably #2 #3 and #4 were watching Jesus Camp video and got mixed up.

If its a real attempt to explain kids, is quite good they don't lie (sorry apocalypse lovers, so far no way can be compared to Chernobyl) yet explain it in a simple way so kids understand it but more important if they could get parents to stop watching those freak show promoters from the news, getting everyone nervous just to sell papers or increase rating. Official announcements is all that we need to hear, unless you're an expert and can actually help.

Probably #2 #3 and #4 would rather have their kids all anxious and fearful, not eating and having nightmares when they go to sleep. :S

#12 Yeah there was an explosion alright, just like fukushima the reactor building was destroyed. Chernobyl had no protective shield around the reactor like modern power plants. the reactor didnt blow up as you stated but if ppl say "chernobyl blew up" its just a bad way of describing the scenario, wouldnt you agree ?
Picture of sux2bu67 achievements

+1 19. sux2bu commented 13 years ago

No I would not agree. The steam explosion was quickly followed by a hydrogen gas explosion which released huge amounts of radioactive particles into the atmosphere. The building was blown to pieces and the fuel rods and graphite control media were badly damaged. I would call that a serious explosion.
The Soviets built that reactor on the cheap and it was unique and unlike other reactors in the world.

Russians thinks that Chernobyl was nothing, Americans think that Three Mile Island was less than nothing.. At least Japan acknowledges that this is a fucked up situation..

Not only the Cernobyl incident was of larger proportions but it was kept a secret so no measures of evacuation were taken before the explosion. Plus into many of the ex URSS states the information about what happened there and what people could do about taking some safety measures reached the population too late. I know my mum remembers clearly when that radioactive cloud reached our country. She was outside in the garden and the rain cought her a bit. Only days later she heard on the radio what was going on.
I believe that Japan is being fair about the situation and instead of hiding the mess under the carpet they try to minimize the impact on the population.
This short animation is aimed at the children to explain what they hear on the news and all around them in a more comprehensive way. There is no brain washing and they are not putting them at ease that all is perfect and under control. Positive thinking helps while PANIC only causes more damage!
