It is called Sugar Glass - same material used when actors dive through glass windows. Very fargile; that is why you see the cloth lining the holder.

Anyone can do it with that large needle, but would you click on a thumbnail saying "redneck throws needle through glass"? Next thing you know, Shaolin monks are lighting farts on fire or using treadmills wrong.
