there was barely any snow on that roof....living in canadian winters, i've seen a hell of a lot more snow on roofs.

#5 Thats not so true , think about weight distribution a large building like that with a massive flat roof and with only a foot of snow it can equal ton's of snow.

Sometimes irony uses sarcasm and vise versa to underline what the speaker wants to say, but they never get close, as they are very different concepts, regardless of language. So no, the German Ironie is the same as the English Irony.
