Their reaction time to the food is almost instantaneous. Given the size of most of those Koi, they have been in that pond quite a while. So, they have been conditioned for feedings.

On my home island. The location is in Lihue, Kauai at the former Kauai Lagoons Resort, which is now a Mariott. They have feedings every day and those suckers will hop out of the water and onto the deck.
