The last free people? Being ignorant of all the advancements of humanity makes them free?
Free of greed and exploitation I guess, but what about all the positives?
Who among us would like to leave all the benefits of civilisation behind to go live in the jungle?

Just a thought.

#7 If you think of all the possible ways we can be "free" I think this comes pretty close to the perfect way.

#9 You dont need to sign anything, just go to the forest and never come back. That sounded like an insult, but it wasn't. :)

Now that they've been discovered it won't be long until the 'wonderfully enlightened and civilised' explorer makes contact with them and pollutes their culture with his 'wisdom'. What they need is to be left alone. If they wanted to find other humans don't you think they'd have gone looking?

#7 Indeed, I love these a-holes who think they know what is best for others and like to keep things in a nice little "natural" terrarium for him to gaze at for his own enjoyment. Some day they'll have a fancy meeting and one of the villagers will kick his A** after realizing this guy kept them in that jungle. I for one am glad we no longer run around in a loincloth having to kill for food or die from malnutrition or disease and enjoy many modern conveniences.

#10 didn't get insulted...no worries. i'd love to live that life, but sadly i have too many ties in the real world to just abandon as much as i'd want to.

Here's the kicker. Even if those dudes had never had contact with our "civilisation" they live in an area claimed by some country, owned by someone. And they have fuck all rights. Woo-hoo! They could then either choose to continue living like that, if some "preservation" organisation raises enough money for it, and be watched like a zoo animal or comply to the rules of whatever fucking country they live in and be miserable like the rest of us.

Tough choice tho. Sacrifice your first-born and wear a monkey skull on your head or give half of your income to the elected government as tax. Tough choice.

Let's take up a collection and send them a few cases of Coke and a satellite dish.

If they are free and want to stay that way then shouldn't they have the knowledge to make an informed decision.

They might be thinking "why doesn't that a$$hole in the plane get us the f#%k out of here, this place sucks and who won American Idol????"

Early 20th century anthropologists were deceptive in their reports, and also deceived by the natives they studied. These people do not live idyllic lives, free from the worries of modern civilization. Hobbes had it mostly right when he wrote, of pre-civilized human life, that it was "nasty, brutish, and short".

Beyond that, there's also an island south of India populated by hostile natives with no exposure to modern civilization, beyond the boats off shore that they throw spears and whatnot at.

Advocating the continued isolation of these people's is a deeply selfish act, on the whole, though it's arguable that becoming another poor underclass in a developing nation would not be much of an improvement at this time.

Now imagine the "alien" race being in the plane and mankind on the ground. Why would they even bother with us. We are clearly inferior.

Anyway, i think it's a shame the children have to grow up in the jungle. They have so many choices to make and education to do. Child labor is something we should be working away from so i do not agree with this scientist.

It's in our nature to destroy purity because we envy it. This will not last.

When the big event happens, they are the only ones left to survive, no technology. food enough, water enough, no weird bactery of virusses.

Sometimes I wonder what is better, live as one of them, or one of us (working hard, and paying the bills)

yes they are free, but what is more, they live in harmony with the nature. thats something what our "civilized" society can never get back to. We evolved to something like cancer for this planet. And we will destroy every single planet on which we will live.
#23 i thought Amazon isnt owned by any1,or is it? idk
#15 they are much more healthy than u think. Many of todays diseases were made by human.
I wish they stay that way forever. Not possible tho...

<Sarcasm> OH HELL NAW. I demand we impose a huge democratic government on them. Free living is extinct. Get those sum bitches a census form. </sarcasm>

Leave em alone. If they want out they can canoe or hike their happy asses on out. Its none of our damn business to introduce taxes and fast food.

And yes #24, he did mention gay porn. Good ear, i missed it the first time.

They might be "free" but life expectancy for Amazonian native people is only 43 years, so they better enjoy themselves while they can. Their life span is only marginally better than the poor Australian Aborigines who average 40 years.

It's a double sided blade. I knew an art gallery owner who used to send guys into South America to trade t-shirts and plastic buckets to villagers for woven baskets and clay pots. He got in a lot of trouble for it from the government. But the villagers complained when they couldn't get any more buckets. The fact is, they were tired as hell of having to weave baskets and make clay pots. A plastic bucket replaces both of those things and doesn't break when you drop it.

If by free you mean abject poverty, disease... and being at the mercy of the first thug from inside or out.
