They actually look much alike 06:50. So, in a sense the woman who died lives on through her hand with Emily. Cool

14 hours surgery!? Bravo to the surgeons. Bravo to the LIVING donor! (from what I can see in the hand comparison, the donor is young!)
@zerorain I don't know what is more wrong... the fact that you see people with disabilities and think of masturbation or the fact that you think masturbating will get you into hell

OMG!!! ZOMBIE HAND!!!
Although I'm a doctor and I fully appreciate any successful surgery, and the humbling experience the patient and her mother went through ..c'monn you gotta have some sense of humor. So #4, my hat's off to you. ![]()
#5 If you think that's impressive check this: February 8, 1951, The procedure to remove an ovarian cyst from Gertrude Lewandowski of Chicago,. Illinois, USA, lasted 96 hours, and after the surgery the patient's weight fell from 280 to 140 kilograms.
#6 Well my first thought when i saw that "stump" was that she was wall trained in using it. 5 years mate. You have to be a realist!
Picking body parts from dead people isn't something new, neither is a hand transplant. However it's is very good work from the doctors that finally got to do something awesome for a change.
What would impress me more is *if/when* they start to *grow* body parts that are your own and then transplant those. That is a step in the right direction. Can't say that i like to see other people used for spare parts. That just reduce the value of people to a bottom low - regardless of them being alive or not. It is impressive nonetheless, but would be more so when they can actually grow body parts.

Modern medical advancements are becoming rather remarkable, aren't they? Just wait until you see where this will lead us. I'm rather alarmed by the prospect of cutting and sewing people like garments. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to see this young woman have a chance to recoup from a terrible loss, but the more advanced this technology becomes, the higher the odds are that we'll see living “donors” stripped like stolen cars. I wish I could believe that nobody would be that evil, but I've lived too long and I've seen too much to be that naive.

I also heard of stem cell pregnated(from the recipient) organs so the body will recognize it as its own. Post-transplant it is still tough and expensive life with all those immune suppressors. She is still young and I wonder what made her commit to this surgery.
