She was 3yrs old when she got shot, and is 6yrs old when she forgave the shooter... She has no memory of what it was like before, or concept of what has been taken away from her. She only knows life in the condition she is in now. Tragic doesnt cover it.

#4 is right, she has no knowledge of what it is like to walk, therefore she doesn't know what she has lost. You can never lose something you never had.

Still a sad story though, i'm pretty sure the shaved security guard was shedding tears.

#4 #5. you both are wong at that. My daughter went for a simple heart surgery when she was 3 1/2 years old. the sophia childrenshospital here in holland did such a bad job that she also became disabled and is in a wheelchair now. she is 5 1/2 at this moment and she does remember how it was to walk, to cycle, to swim and so on, i would not see why this child would not have the same experience with that.
one difference is that i never will forgive the surgeon who made the stupid mistake that made my daughter disabled.

He should still be executed! Shooting at kids or innocent people in general is not acceptable...

People think of forgiveness as a weakness.
Bbut living the rest of her life in anger would be way more destructive and disabling than letting go.

Forgiving is moving on.

When holding on to pain an anger takes you nowhere, it's just the right move.

YOU GO GIRL!

The shooter is dumb for shooting the gun to scare someone anyways...you gotta "whoosass" if you want to scare someone. Urban Dictionary the word in quotes if you don't get it.

what a crock of crap! she has not lived long enough to understand what she has lost. And the humane waste that did it should not have lived long enough to hear her misplaced forgiveness.Further more bet this forgiveness would not have been so forth coming had she been shot by a white officer trying to stop the same waste of good air the shot her. Crime and killing thats about the most you can expect. Let me know when statistics prove me wrong.

I would never shake that mans hand if he did that to my daughter. I would make sure he got maximum sentence because my child got a life sentence

#4 and #5, congrats for the most foolish thought award of 2011.

#14, your life would be full of crap if it was just a load of hatreds.

the little girl and her family are much wiser and braver than normal people. that's why they are so much admired.

Those people talking about how she had not lived long enough to understand the loss have obviously never met someone with a disability.

Do you really think all the people in wheelchairs or the disabled ones go about their day pitying themselves, thinking how much worse their lives are compared to the normal people? Wake the fuck up.

Forgiving the man that shot her is the wisest course of action that Kai Leigh Harriott and her family could take for themselves. What #11 said is quite right, being an emotional cripple would only destroy any chance of happiness that little girl might have. That being said, the forgiveness extended to Anthony Warren in no way absolves him of his enormous debt to society. Warren, his brother and others had an argument with the people who lived on the first floor of the three-family house. They LEFT, then Warren RETURNED around 11 pm and fired three rounds at the house. Warren was charged with six assault and weapons charges and it is a small comfort (I mean minuscule) that he elected to plead guilty on all counts. Warren was sentenced to 13 to 15 years in prison and five years probation. Due to the fuzzy arithmetic skills that most government entities seem to possess, he could conceivably be eligible for parole one or two years from now, as he was sentenced in 2006. I believe Anthony Warren deserves much more than he received because as #15 stated, the child received a life sentence. Kai Leigh Harriott gets no possibility of parole.

#17 you are so very right !! if i look at my own daughter then i see she is so much more motivated in everything, alway's happy with the things she cán do. maybe people like #14 should go to some disabled people and stay with them for just 1 day. then he knows statistics are worthless

I don't think there's anything to AW about here... The little girl couldn't possibly forgive someone who put her in a wheelchair on her own accord.. she had to be coached, and because the mother forgives the fucker who shot her daughter it tells us that her mother was the one to give the little girl the idea...
Also dont you love how they say she got shot after "A wild west shootout" NO, actually it was some fucking gang banging niggers who don't give a fuck about anyone else and never will.. and not hating on blacks here, the shooter was black... every race has their own group of scum for example if he was from the middle east and blew up himself with other people we have some bad names for them as well too... don't get all offended now... a lot of you people seem to be as ignorant as the little girl's mother... yes I understand that the little girl will no doubt live her life and she wont be miserable and filled with hatred but to forgive something like that just doesn't make sense... I live in L.a. and you watch the news here and very often there's a report of gang related shootings etc. and you hear about innocent kids getting shot and most of the time end up dead... Should everyone start to forgive everything that scum of the earth does? I'm surrounded by dozens of kids sisters, brothers etc.. So I formed my opinion on the thought of something like this ever happening to them.. Would YOU be able to forgive that person and shake their hands?
Also remember.. yes people all around the world are born or have accidents that make em cripple but this little girl was born to be able to sing dance swim jump.... she was robbed of all those experiences FOR LIFE.. He was only charged with 15 years.. had this little girl been killed this story would be a whole lot different..

She's a kid for crying out loud. She barely has any "life" experience which makes it a lot easier for her to forgive. For a regular adult who actually has a lot of "life" experience it will not be as "easy" to forgive, trust me on that.

#20 Today a 2-year old kid got stabbed to death by his father. Now you know. If i didn't tell you this you wouldn't know about it. It's a lovely world we live in.

#23 you're right. Everyone should totally brood on every wrong they've been done in their life.
Then they can die unhappy and alone.
