I like how they always bring up solutions for global hunger. They dont understand that we dont want to solve global hunger..the will for solutions of global hunger is an illusion. The technology now a days can build pocketsize computers which are able to do everything this giant pc of mine can do right here...and we're not able to produce enough food for the world? We throw so much food away everyday, and we're not able to give enough to african countries? Nah..its an illusion..

#3 Every kingdom need its civilians to collect their taxes and do the dirty work. Every powerful country needs a colony or poor country to do the slavery work no one else is willing to do.
I do think that his open source hardware thing is somewhat revolutionary or the start of new ideas and solutions for many co-op problems. The same way Open source software is somehow threatening to closed source software, this will be a threat against manufacturers. But hey! Just like people pay for high-quality software, people are going to pay for high quality hardware. But at the very least this will serve as a good competition against monopolies and an acceleration of technological boom for all kinds of needs.

And how will The Big Brothers do they money laundering?
They always come up with new crisis, new war, destroying other cultures so they can "save" them investing tons of useless projects, teaching them human rights after slaughtering half of them, not giving anybody a chance to evolve enough to be capable of self support?
I used to be proud for being human, the intelligent life form in this solar system that has the capability of exploring and adapting to almost every environment, but now I have nothing but shame. We destroyed everything that was in our way, even our self.
And yeah, you can downgrade my comment but you cannot shut me up!
it all sounds good but how do you make rain in drought affected Africa to use the open source farming machines?

The guy's a simple-minded idiot. We've been able to do all of this for years. Decades! He's just trying to put a new label on old technology. He probably goes to sleep at night with a self-satisfied smirk plastered across his face. He's going to change the world.
The problem is.... he isn't.... and he's just too full of himself to realise it.

#3 We have enouhg food and money to feed every living human. But we dont, because the rich companys proudly show they made 10 billion dollars and the owner of the company drives 10 cars. and eats $10.000 caviar, drinks $5000 champagne and shows it to the world he can do it and you can't.
meantime a kid only needs a $1 medicine, and dies. But the problem is If I donate a dollar to the company taking care of the kids, there are 2000 employees and 200 directors eating from the same dollar so not even a cent goes to the kid.
#10 Imagine if everyone tought like you, no one would ever donate to Africa, and a lot more ppl would die, because, parts of what you say its true, but im sure some of the money arrives, that depends on the company your donating too, there are serious ones too...
I for one am sick of donating to Africa. It's a bottomless pit which just swallows up every other country's money and then does absolutely nothing to better itself. The bastards just sit there and do fuck-all except make more and more fuckin' babies and then expect the rest of the world to pay.
Africa should look after Africa.

We will outgrow this planet... and we will only have one square meter to stand on. ![]()
#12 the problem is, we make them that way: we took what we wanted, we drew borders and gave'em machine guns and landmines. Now they're dying and they don't even know why. Once I had the same opinion as yours - leave them alone to starve, they'll manage or not, not my problem. But one article changed my mind: "Africa: third world isn't black and white" by Ryszard Kapu?ci?ski. I can't find it in english though... ![]()
This whole discussion is so cynical it's pathetic...
You guys are fcking hopeless... You are wrong on so many levels that it's totally useless to even try...! You express such strong opinions on a subject you obviously know absolutely nothing about... Words can't even begin to express how much I despise you cynical jerks... ![]()

This is a really awesome idea. I didnt read the discussion above but no matter what this is a step in the right direction. "Open source" is the very basic idea which developed the human race in the first place. Its only logical to return to the concept of free global progress over time.
#15 Good comment really... we have to take responsibility for the symptoms we created...
With the rising availability of free information reaching even the poorest countries, I can only hope that more and more people will stop seeing the world as being black and white... The world will get better when people stop being so fcking linear... ![]()
Sounds to me like the guy should learn to repair the tractor he bought and not just junk it, what a dope, you think starving people have the time and resources to build toy tractors?
Big Banks, Big Government/Military, Big Companies will make sure people starve and they prosper. There is no shortage of food, material, resources. It is an illusion. Good luck going against greed and the billionaires.

"The millions are awake enough for physical labor; but only one in a million is awake enough for effective intellectual exertion, only one in a hundred millions to a poetic or divine life. To be awake is to be alive. I have never yet met a man who was quite awake. How could I have looked him in the face?”

Our Goverment (Republicans) want to close the door on immigrants coming into
our Country. This guy came from Poland. They will be able to stop like him from coming in. Think about it. People like him is what made our Country great!

#22 if your country is america, then i don't see what's so great about it. I for one, wouldn't want to live there.
It's great that he made blueprints for those machines, but all the people who made the open source projects that he mentioned, Linux for example, didn't grow because their original creator went to brag about it on some popular TV talk.

This will work only if the status quo do not nail him with bureaucratic shenanigans.
