#3 The Blackbird was a reconnaissance aircraft. Advances in satellite capabilities and now UAVs have superseded the SR-71. To design and build an aircraft that could match, let alone exceed the Blackbird's level of performance in today's world would not be deemed cost effective.
I've been fascinated with this plane for years just like you and even witnessed a take-off (from a distance) sadly, reality is seldom as romantic as our imagination.

#12 First flight with the SR-71 was 64 but since the SR-71 just is a stretched version of the A-12 the first real flight was -62.

#11 Satellites can never replace airplanes, if the goverment need pictures on a sertain moment right now, etc military movement they cant wait 6-12 hours before a satellites is in the right place to take photos, and what about 1 hour after the first photo? Should they wait another 6-12 hours before the next one?

Also, high speed planes isnt just for reconnaissance, high speed planes is developed to make a cheap staged or non stage aircraft to bring stuff into low orbit,

Rest assure that the american gov have something that is way faster than the blackbird today for several reasons.....

#13 Reconnaissance was the Blackbird's mission purpose. As I stated, satellites AND UAVs have superseded the SR-71's role in intelligence gathering. Aurora, Blackstar and Black Manta were misinformation campaigns.

Blackbirds becomes so hot in the air that engineers had to make all the joints loose! so it leaks fuel while landed!

#13 what about 36 hours dedicated to prepare man and mashine before flight? 6-12 hours seems quite reasonable

If a surface-to-air missile launch was detected, the standard evasive action was simply to accelerate and outrun the missile. 8-)
