EDWARD - Electric Diwheel With Active Rotation Damping
This project by students in the School of Mechanical Engineering, the University of Adelaide involved the construction of a human operated diwheel called EDWARD. Many diwheels in the past have been human powered or powered by IC engines. This one is purely electric. It has additional functionality lacking in other models, including inbuilt dynamic lateral stability and slosh control to prevent "gerbiling" or tumbling in aggressive braking or acceleration maneuvers. The diwheel also incorporates a unique feature that allows the rider to drive the vehicle when "upside down" - keeping the vehicle in its unstable state.

#7 So you use your devices also 1 hour and need to recharge it X-time the time you used it? Anyways..you know the difference between prototyping/Ideas/experiments on a school till its a final product? Read the description..its a project by students.
This thing is more like a proof of concept for a software, than for the vehicle you see there. What did you made in school my friend? I dont think you could make a balancing software for it and build a vehicle to test it ![]()
The revolution of transport is near. In a few years from now I see all of us going heads down, back first at 40 km/h through our towns.
Should be called "DIEwheels".
Aren't we enough like rats in a cage? Now we have the hamster wheel to run on like mindless rats!
Why do they have to keep reinventing the wheel? I am sure that some good will come from all the research, but this is one useless toy.
