Why not just have all the cars fitted with RC technology and have the pit crew sit in a simulator and race them.
This sport is getting ruined by all these pointless Health & safety measures.
What about the recent race where a car caught fire. They would have to have ejector seats then. And what about rainy races as well ?

Come on! What did they really want to learn from that? That fighter jet's canopy performs better on impact than that of an F1 car? With fighter jet's price to build like 50 times higher than for F1 car? Duh... Try testing Space Shuttle's windshield! ![]()
#8 Hey genius ,F1 cars do not have canopies . This testing is an attempt to save lives by starting to use them in the near future.

#9 I believe #8 is just getting at the point that did they seriously need to test them before installing them onto the F1 cars?
#4 Explain to me how this is going to "ruin" F1 championship if introduced?

#9 Oh, yeah, right, saving lives requires testing fighter jet canopy against F1 car windshield. "See, how good this canopy is? Lets put it on our F1 cars right away!" Get those scientists to their blackboards to do some science and math to save lives! There are million other ways to save lives without testing the obvious!
Besides, how do you get the pilot out of a burning car if he is covered with that thing? Use ejection seats like #7 suggested? ![]()
#10 I do not know why you think you have to explain what #8 said but you missed the point. He thinks F1 race cars have windshields/canopies when they do not....they are open cockpit cars with no protection for the driver in the event of a tire or other debris hitting his head area. And if they had selected the first polycarbonate canopy without testing it first then a death would probably have occurred from that mistake. After seeing the polycarbonate shield shatter upon impact it looks like testing the fighter jet canopy was the common sense way to go.
@ #11 He again asserts that F1 cars have windshields...."Oh, yeah, right, saving lives requires testing fighter jet canopy against F1 car windshield."
Some people just don't have a clue.
