I'm with 5 on this one.. don't think there is such thing as a close collision bit like a near miss really if you nearly missed doesn't that mean you hit?! so the near miss should actually be called a near hit! duuh!

Why didnt they just turn the opposite direction, :P the sails are a blowing that way anyways so would have been easier, and would have avoided the close call moment....so is it skill-full manoeuvre or a captains error in the BIG WIDE OCEAN ;)

This happened during the 2011 Audi TP52 World Championship sailing race. The British boat, Gladiator, almost rammed the officating boat and only superb work by the crew diverted disaster. They finished third behind Germany and the US.
