I run a London nightclub in the West End area and I have to say the security team I got are very good. Lightning fast to react to trouble and eject the troublemakers immediately. But the video depiction is true in regards to sometimes the trouble coming back for you afterwards. I've known a few bouncers who've been brutally attacked after work as revenge, and one who sadly got topped off with a gun after being followed home from work.

The nightclub scene is very dirty and lots of stuff happen behind the scenes that the normal punter doesn't know about. You need to know who to be nice to (gangsters, enforcers, etc) and who to stop from coming in (petty thieves, small time drug peddlers, etc) so as to not piss off the wrong people.

#1 ye a mate of mine was a bouncer for a while. He came home with a new horror story every second night. Some of the worst were when he was working security in a 24h supermarket, not a good place to be at 4am :(
