Canis Major, the largest star discovered within our galaxy. Its in southern sky, little under Sirius. Get the Google Sky app and look it up 8-)

#1 You just know there looking at us and thinking , what kind of stupid plant of aliens is that look at them fighting with each other over some invisible man in the sky and over some black stuff they find in the ground.

The question in my mind is not if there are aliens as it would be very naive of us to think out of all the billions of planets and systems out there that we are the only form of life.

What is amazing is that our cosmic horizon that we can see is 13.7 billion light years across the universe, but by the time the light reached us from that far it has already expanded twice or more since it expands ever more rapidly that which we cannot perceive. Our milky way galaxy is on of the smallest galaxies we know of compared to some that have been mapped. Makes you feel so insignificant to the vast size of the universe.

as the gas giants get bigger the faster they burn, it will be billions of years until our sun becomes a red giant like vy canis majoris

And these are the stars we can see from earth (telescope). mind there could be stars million times bigger then the biggest shown in this video. And there are stars that far away, the light they produce, from the moment they existed, woul not even have time to reach us in the next millions of years. (if a star is further away then 4 billion lightyears, what is a incredible distance btw)

So is it logical to think that there must be other BIGGER earth like planets that orbit the SUPER star at the end? meaning there must be GIANT people/creatures on it?

@#15 Cool thought but I think unfortunately no. The bigger the plant means the bigger the gravity which I think would lead to smaller people/creatures on it. But of course this leads me to thinking there may be super powerful dwarfs though but I suspect thats a whole new video.

Very cool and the kind of thing I like to see on Snotr! The largest star shown in this video (VY Canis Majoris) has a 3.0 billion km diameter and a luminosity of 4.3×10^5 L at 1 AU.

There are Quasar's that make even this look small and dim by comparison; a typical quasar has a 100 billion km diameter and a luminosity of ~1x10^11 at 20 AU. To put that in perspective, a single quasar is brighter than the whole of the Milky Way, including its 200-400 billion stars combined. The supermassive black holes at the centre of quasars are thought to be where Chuck Norris stores his dumbells. :D

#18 Well it gets a little more technical than saying a cm closer which would not make much of a difference, if we are talking miles and kilometers then yes.

#18 your dad is wrong. Earth is habitable because it falls within what is known as the habitable zone. this is the region in the solar system (any, for that matter) which provides the right conditions for liquid water to exist on a planet's surface. We are alive because Earth exists in this zone. Our habitable zone is between 0.75AU and 3AU... 1AU equates to about 149,597,870.7 km's (to x3)... So yeah... plus, our earth orbits the sun in an elliptical orbit, not a perfect circle, so we come closer to the sun some times in the year than others... :(|)

#18, #19 Not even close. The distance to the sun varies throughout the year by about 5 million kilometers. The last perihelion (closest approach to the sun), in fact, was about a day before this video was posted. So those of us in the northern hemisphere, far from burning up when closest to the sun, are freezing in winter.
