The decrease of costs and the increase in income isn't very relevant, it all depends on a social system we've built ourselves that is bound to break down sooner or later. Same for technology. A solar storm with enough magnetism could easily erase virtually all hard-drive data (that isn't stashed in a bunker) on one side of the earth. Good speech, but I really don't feel as optimistic about the future as he does. :/

faith in humanity restored! TED is the best channel of news.since i watched the first video from TED i can say that i am a lot smarter and a lot greatefoul to researchers for their work.
he's not connected with audience at all (very much like any college professor). great speech none the less but if Ken Robinson was to present the same material, he'd rock the room

The ads on this website are a disgrace, way too loud and in your face. They almost make me not want to come back again and again like i have done for years. for the first 30 seconds of this vid the sound was drowned out by some cilit bang rubbish posted over war images :/

#8 if you had a site that could make you some money by putting up some ads, OR making it abit less appealing to people like you I think we would all choose to make some money...

#6 yes thank you science for the atomic bomb and weapons of mass destruction. Science is our understanding of the universe, we can also abuse it just like religion. I love my faith and I love science for me it is one and the same.

#9 dude, get YOUR shit together and if you don't like it then just don't watch it and even more, DON'T POST it !!!
if you'd listen to the guy here you'd know that there are many other sites like snotr and i'm sure one of them will make you happy !
the more technology and the more everything for that matter, the more we get bored by it. people live in a constant need of stimulation, adrenaline junkies: more tv, video games, base jumping, backflip on rollers holding a dog and what other stupid shit we come up with just to escape the reality of the abundance he's describing...
he scared me more than gave me hope or joy !
in the end, who's going to benefit from cell reception in Kenya, drinkable water anywhere etc..? corporations !!
more of the same for everybody = control the market and you control the people.
obviously we need clean water, energy, food etc... for everybody but what are 7 billion people going to do in 10 years ???
nobody even touches the subject of overpopulation, but this is where it all starts !
Utter bullshit.
The very infrastructure is built by the people who are causing absolute bullshit in the middle east, then saying something like global warming is out biggest problem.
Tell that to any little girl from Palestine. 1st world problems

#14 its not about beeing cheaper..diesel will come to an end..solar will stay for a few million years without exhausting by our use of it. I'd like to see you recharge any of your mobile device with diesel...you need a polluting generator...not that complicated with a solar panel ![]()

Seriously, if you hating on religion make you think your cool. then what a shitty life you live. Science cannot disprove religion, and religion encompasses science. As true Christians we dont judge you for hating on GOD thats your choice but like most ppl comment on here, keep it to yourself.
and GOD be with you.

This is utter nonsense. Try telling the twenty million unemployed people things are getting better. Everything is cheaper? That's an out and out lie. Minimum wage has doubled in thirty years but the cost of living is fifteen times as high. This guy thinks like a politician or what's called an economist. All the pipe-dreaming in the world won't alter the greed of those controlling the money.

As long as:

1. A world war does not start.
2. People with power stop stealing from the people without power.
3. A asteroid does not hit us.
We are all good !
