A Romanian paved the way for Steve Jobs well before 1984... His name is Stefan Odobleja . He laid the fondations of cybernetics in 1941. Also see this... http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Av2A0z8vyg4/TpVhGb7u2KI/AAAAAAAAjhY/fNBM9AvlpIg/s1600/Evoulation-of-Apple-001.jpg

#5 really ? Fan of Steve Jobs you say ? Tell me about it What did he did to be so freekin famous ? He made some overpriced gageds and he was considered Jesus Christ of modern gadgeds and technologies.. And also if you are a hardcore Steve Jobs fan you sould be aware that he COPIED not invented his work.. it was stolen... inform yourself if you don't believe me, Google is your best friend and also, in 2001 i think, Microsoft launced TabletPC, and nobody gave a fck and when iPad was launched all the world was like "OMG OMG THIS IS TECHNOLOGY FROM FUTURE "... I'm into computers since 1993 since i was a kid.. And I know what I'm talking about I did my homework laddie. Yeah and just so you may want to know, when Jobs died, tons of ppl from all over the world were with apples instead of candles and all sorts of shits... but in the same days, the man who invented C programming code,Dennis Ritchie died, and NOBODY gave a fck ! Dennis Ritchie's contribution to all the technological advancements in the world of modern computing is immense. Most of the digital computation, sophisticated programming and the Internet are deeply entrenched in two inventions that he was deeply involved in: The Unix Operating System and the C Programming Language. Steve Jobs has been injudiciously celebrated as the greatest inventor of the modern world when he died and has been celebrated and anointed by the media as the uncontested Newton/Einstein/Edison - all rolled into one - of the 21st century!... Why ??? Tell me about how he made the world better...?! Check this ! http://gizmodo.com/5542527/undercover-report-from-foxconns-hell-factory . And just so you know #5, the iPhone continues to lose its competitive edge to Android-based phones and here's some more interesting "hot" stuff about Steve Jobs's Apple http://gawker.com/5847344 [I had to cut half of my comment because it was too long Snotr said ] I've seen on the news that a kid gave away one of his kidney for money to buy iPad 2.

Any day now, we'll be hearing about some nut spotting Steve Jobs at the supermarket, just like all those Elvis sightings.

This is great. Thanks, Steve, that was real sweet of you. I can picture my parent's first interaction with a computer.
Jay- "It's on. IT'S ON! What do we do with it? This is...what's this?"
Pam- "Don't touch it! No! What's it doing? Don't touch it!"
Jay- "Honey, look at this."
Pam- "Don't touch it, Jay!"

You wouldn't believe how much is actually stolen. Even the ipod design was no invention by jobs or apple. It was first seen in the 60's in a german radio by braun. The design wasn't under protection any more so itwas free for the taking. The inventor got two ipods years after it was a huge success.
Jobs created a computer game with his co-founder and when splitting the money he claimed they had gotten a lot less so he wouldn't have to give him 50%.
i'm an apple fan. I really like their software (final cut 7 and logic), i like the design of the products and i actually like macos as it is pretty stable. Prices are high, but i can sell any device after 2 years for at least 50% of its original price, thus i don't see such a massive differnce between prices for some acer or a mac.
Steve jobs on the other side, maybe such a company needs such a guy, but he is far from being a saint.

#8: Ritchie was awarded for his work many years ago. It just happens that he did little to nothing of interest afterwards. Jobs was, not only a celebrity, but also a CEO of a hugely successful company whose products touch our everyday lives. Media seldom cares about scientists, but they sure love celebrities.
By the way, C-language just happened to become the de-facto standard. It could have been any other language too. Maybe this world would be a better place if Pascal was the most common language. Who knows...
Unix on the other hand is even the base for Apple operating systems. There's no denying it's importance, but Ritchie was only one member in a team of experts developing it.

#9 & #14 Moore's law... Amazing to observe, isn't it? =)
#2 I don't want to take the wind out of your sails, but if this is something you want to hand out, then it would be better to start with Claude Shannon, who in 1937 basically fathered informatics... not to mention, even some years later when it came to Stefan Odobleja, he wasn't the ONLY one doing some paving in this field... No problem with little patriotism, though...
This following section is partly a reaction to #8 's comment, but it's written in a general way, so where it does not apply to #8 it's not meant to suggest otherwise:
For those linux fans who have something against OSX, apart from "Pimped Linux" where you can actually modify your page tables (among other things), and which I doubt many of you have ever come in contact with, there aren't very many things you can do on linux that cannot be done with OSX... If we would be talking about what the graphical interface allows you to do, okay, then OSX is quite restricted, but what person assessing what system can or cannot do, is restricted to graphical interface?
Moving on, I'm big fan of certain Linux distributions (Fedora, Debian), but I'm also quite a fan of OSX as it is much more supported these days... It is still extremely pricy piece of hardware, yes, but so what, it's not like we're battling prices here (and who doesn't like it or doesn't have the money, need not buy it... then go for Linux of Windows, preferably Linux ^^)...
About the factory issues, read more, Apple did not invent those conditions nor is the first with these kind of problems...
#15 Exactly, media and non-tech-savvy people do not know (or care) much about scientists, but they do love celebrities and public figures... Although I dislike how media twist certain things (Steve Jobs was more of a designer than developer/engineer... not like people get that from media), it still is quite predictable process...

I still have a 20 year old Mac working perfectly, they might be overpriced and overpopular but they sure are reliable. Interesting video.
