Holy crap!
That is freaking awesome!
But they used the sound of the AK-47 in Counter-strike: Source for one of the sounds of the "pistol" claws.

Wiki:
The shrimp snaps a specialized claw shut to create a cavitation wave that generates acoustic pressures of up to 80 kPa at a distance of 4 cm from the claw. The pressure wave is strong enough to kill small fish.

For the first minute I thought it was fake.

it does you just need to have a device that can pick it up cuz your ears cant.

you can actually buy these guys for a saltwater aquarium. but its one of the most expensive hobbies and addicting. :)

"as the bubbles collapse they momentarily reach the temperature of the sun"......bollocks....the snapping force of the pincer creates a concentrated jet of water that disorientates the prey, nothing more. the gun sound effects are lame.
a good video, but would be better without the embellishments.

If anyone wants to know this series was called Weird Nature, shown on the BBC a few years ago. I highly recommend people here go looking for it (and it is available ;-) ) because the whole series was amazing from start to finish!

The sound effects are fake, but the rest is real. It is not a concentrated jet of water at all, but the actual shock wave from the collapsing bubbles. Research this in Wikipedia or anywhere. You can Google "Pistol Shrimp" and find out all you want to know (and more, LOL)

I'll bet it'd sting a little. But the whole "temperature of the sun" thing sounds like bullshit, even if it is less than a second.

The temperature of the sun? and be able to produce it more than once! wtf are those claws made of?

#12 Not necessarily bollocks.. The collapse of such generated bubbles is indeed purported to create high temperatures - its called sonoluminescence:

(I agree with you about the other embellishments though).
