some of it make perfect sense, like the cup holder aspect- american auto market competes the number of cup holder inside the vehicle as a "feature", and all followed in with it ever since 80s, more is better, no ? and driver license is just a joke, I've seen it, you can get one and still can't park a freaking Smart Fortwo
on the germany autobahn the recommended speed is 80mph, its illigel to drive with less then 37mph
#5 Yea think its similar to the Dutch system , compulsory minimum number of lessons and then the test itself costs a few hundred and fail a few times and it can end up costing you thousands , but at least you can be sure the people there who do have a licence are actually able to drive.
It depends on how many drivers lessons you need.
I Paid something like 1,6 for my but my sister paid 2,2 and i also know some people with 2,8 and highger. Also it depends a lot on the Driving school and some other facts like your theroie lessons etc.
You have to make two night time rides, and also at least two Rides on the Autobahn. Each time you drive about 3-4 Hours. Thats the think which makes it really expensive.
sorry for my english :>

It doesn´t reach more than 100 m/s (=360kph)

#5: It's the same here in Denmark - around $1,600 for a driving license. How much is it in UK?
A litre of gasoline cost $1.92 / $3.8 for a gallon in Denmark...
Half a liter of coca cola costs $2.18...
Good thing oil aprices dropped last week...Let's see if that has any impact on the gasoline prices whatsoever ![]()
from germany:
is it true that in the usa average cars take around ~6 gallons / 100 miles or is it a myth that needs to be busted?
in germany the average would be around 3,5 gallons / 100 miles.
And what is the price on 1 gallon?
Here it is around 4,65$.

In a very, very long ten minutes, not a single mangled Beamer in sight.
$3 000 in Norway for the license.. ca 3 bucks for 0.5 l cola.. and almost 10 $ for a gallon! yaaay taxes ![]()
There are actually very few places that have no speed limit in Germany, and truth be told I think the concept is idiotic. The speed differences are so extreme it's just too dangerous to drive full throttle. I remember being passed while doing 140/150 km/hr, and it looked like we were standing still (passing car was doing 250+ km/hr). If that hits you people are bound to die, plus cars aren't constructed to withstand huge impact from the back. In my opinion supercars belong on the racetrack ![]()

This also belongs in Documentaries. I find the psychology and security aspect of this very interesting. But not all places in the world has a geography that allows these extreme highways.
Contrary to most Germans, most American drivers don't consider their car as a substitue for a penis or a missile. They mostly just use it for actually getting from A to B.
#11 for me it cost about £700-£800 that was for about 45 hours (@£15 an hour) driving a theory test and a practical test. this was about 10 years ago so adjust for inflation. ![]()

Wow expensive to drive in that part of the world, here in Manitoba, Canada lic costs 65.00 and fuel today is 97.5 ca a litre my insurance for the year for two vehicals is 1100.00 ca and we have roads where you can drive 110mph or so but if you are caught you will get a huge fine,so many people who are lucky enough to live near a race track go out to the open drive days pay the 25.00 and go nuts
Maybe some more detailed data of german autobahns:
- about 50% without speed limit, recommended speed is 130 km/h
- about 33% with general speed limit
- remaining parts depends on traffic and / or weather conditions
- Speed limit for trucks, buses and cars with trailers: 80 km/h. 100 km/h under specific requirements

Germany History Fun Fact (from Wikipedia):
Just days after the 1933 Nazi takeover, Adolf Hitler enthusiastically embraced an ambitious autobahn construction project and appointed Fritz Todt the Inspector General of German Road Construction. By 1936, 130,000 workers were directly employed in construction, as well as an additional 270,000 in the supply chain for construction equipment, steel, concrete, signage, maintenance equipment, etc. New camps to house the workers were in rural areas built near construction sites. The job creation program aspect was not especially important because full employment was almost reached by 1936. The autobahns were primarily intended as major infrastructure improvement of special value to the military. The propaganda ministry turned them into a major media event that attracted international attention.
I bet he never intended to let people have that much fun on the Autobahn ![]()
Autobahn is just a german word for highway, using this word in english and pronouncing it orrobahn is simply wrong. And start using SI units, this is ridiculous.
the fastest speed I drove on the Autobahn was 240 km/h in a rented Mercedes Benz on a sunday morning. awesome but also a bit scary...

You can't drive a few, ok 10km tops without hitting a speed restriction. And that doesn't include the elephant race between two trucks driving nearly the same speed.
Quickly repaired cracks. What a load of utter shite that is. They spend forever doing ANY sort of work. Look at the A1 between Bremen and Hamburg.
Umgehungsstraase where I live still isn't finished. They started that in 1988.
Calm blue oceans ,calm blue oceans, and breath.
A pity that most Autobahns in southern Germany are usually congested. Driving a top speeds is only possible very late or extremely early. Also, sometimes the road conditions aren't really that good.
Here are some Dutch guys with a 2008 ZR1 on the Autobahn
giving it a workout,interesting.

That's the best place to run those race/fast cars.
Unlike in United States, the Max Speed was 80/75 miles per hour. And the kind of Mustangs, Porsches', Lexus', Cadillac GTXs', and some Lambo and Ferrari are running the speed that was not meant for those race/fast cars.
When I renew my NJ driver's license in a couple weeks, it will cost me $48 for eight years.
And let me say, in a nation with more than 26 times the surface area of Germany, the idea of a cup holder is hardly extravagant. Driving is mostly transportation here.

#26 that is not correct. Use The A 31 from Oberhausen to Leer for example.
There you might do tops for 200 km in a row, if there are no roadworks.
There are other, similiar motorways.
The A1 from Bremen to Hamburg is a special case. The complete motorway is rebuild, while still in use. That takes time.
1 500 - 2 000 USD? In Finland driver's license costs 1 500 - 2 000 EUR. Still cheaper than Norway though ![]()
