The story wasn't all that good, but I see why it won. The style the artists use it quite interesting, those weird circles and lines you see during the animation are actually what animators use as guides for the final drawing, usually these are in very light pencil and removed, this artist emphasizes them and uses them as part of the animation style. Very nice.

BTW for all you idiots, the reason the grandfather was the bird is that he was testing his grandson to see if he was suited as being a good shepard and if he would be able to protect his sheep when and or if they needed him 2
