Erm... I wanted to see the actual landing footage. Not them celebrating the landing.

#6 That is not the actual landing neither. That is just an explanation and simulation of the landing.
#5 They can just have the camera in the vehicle rolling while it is landing. They don't need people in mars to film the footage.

and what footage do you expect from a capsule entering mars atmosphere..bet it would be quite shaky =P

#8 Who cares if it is shaky? In addition, there isn't a thick atmosphere on Mars, unlike Earth. So it won't shake as much as humans landing on Earth with a parachute. Plus I bet it would have been an excellent view seeing the vehicle getting closer to Mar's surface. Not just the side camera of the vehicle projecting the wheels.

First of all there are images taken by Curiosity when landing you can find them on the NASA site, second of all recording video with/without sound is easy, sending the file through space is not.
And it will be a pointless waste of resources to do so.
Also there is a good panoramic view on NASA's website in color!

#11 I am sure they definitely recorded it. They want to collect as much data as they can. After all, they want to improve their landing mechanisms too.
And i don't think that sending data back to Earth is that difficult. They have satellites orbiting Mars too. The only problem is that there would be a time delay due to the distance of transmission.
I don't think that battery is a problem neither. Using solar panels on Mars should be more efficient than using solar panels on Earth since their atmosphere is thin. The only problem is that as the vehicle moves on, the solar panels will be covered with sand.

#17 And it will be two decades or more before any other country can come close to this achievement. The US might be full of fail right now, but NASA is still FTW!
