Thats the problem if you try smelting magnesium (I think)... its not that easy ;)
A few years ago BMW had also problems when starting to produce their engines from magnesium. (With the same results... Thats what a Prof told me :| )

I worked in a aluminum smelter, in wintertime. (they show a similliar video to new employees, what happens if water leaks into the furnace). imagine, driving a trolley, trough a 1 mile long hall, 1 20gallon load of molten aluminum in a open pan, and icecones hanging on the roof... They told me, if ice falls into the pan, just scream and run, as hard and as fast as possible( so others do the same).
