A lightning hit a tree in the background - that's what happened, and a chunk of the tree flying off, I am not so sure it was enough to kill a man, but it would definitely cause serious trauma.

That log probably weighs around 30 kg. Which would hurt you no more than if a kid on a bike hit you with the same speed. Dead? Maybe if you are unlucky.

#8 not the same, a tree can stab you with wooden spikes and a hit over the head with a 30 kg block of wood will kill you or put you in a coma.

Sizzlik, sorry mate, have you ever been hit by a side of beef?! The kids may be fluffy on the outside, but the core is pretty full (beef) and the fluff will just move to the path of least resistance (to the sides). Also, it's the bike that hits the guy first and does the initial trauma and the bike's MASS is equal to that of the bike PLUS the kid. Although I doubt the fluff-ball would have the stamina, energy or breath to achieve the velocity needed to kill someone, unless it was a long down-hill ride. I still gave you a thumbs-up, though! :P

This is exactly the reason you don't stand under trees in thunderstorms - the sap boils internally and the tree fractures spraying hot splinters of wood shrapnel all over the place... no one knows if he'd have walked away or not but I certainly wouldn't want to have been there!
