4. AL7AIR commented 11 years ago on video Calligraphy penmanship like you've never seen before
I'd probably had to restart on a new piece of paper after the second stroke because I'd get the proportions wrong that early
I also once met a guy who engraved mugs in one go with a similar wave-y font using a mechanical burin under flowing water ... I stood next to him for the better part of an hour just to see if another customer could give a challenge, never happened, regardless of the text being just a six letter name or a whole phrase like "From your grand kids with love"

5. AL7AIR commented 11 years ago on video Crazy Russian Ride
#10 I rode the Talocan too, so yeah, I can attest to this as well. And compared to the Talocan the video features a very sloooow ride. It's damn fast, so fast in fact, that the guy three places over on my last ride, had his vomit suspended in front of him in mid air just long enough for him to rotate around it and getting hit by it in the face. Fun ride, at least for all the thrill seekers not right next to him

6. AL7AIR commented 11 years ago on video Crazy Russian Ride
#5 Almost, the Talocan doesn't do the skewed rotation, where both arms are in different positions and rotate independently.

#5 The double line is near the roundabout, overtaking is allowed where they passed the pick up (single solid line and the broken one), and the R35 was probably already in the left lane behind them at that point. Granted they should have finished the overtaking earlier on the single broken line and the Nissan should have pulled in behind them, not boiling up all the rice in one go ...

#11 That, and he should have pulled up the rods sticking out of the back of his tractor where you attach other farm equipment to. 21. AL7AIR commented 12 years ago on video Blackberry Actually Made Something Cool
#7 The technology already exists on many consumer and pro camcorders and is called "Pre Recording". Most manufacturers add a 3 second buffer to their camcorders which, when the feature is enabled, constantly record into said buffer and add what's in it to the video file once the record button is actually pressed. The photo application shown here uses the same technology in combination with face detection and photo stitching/merging, as you can select each person individually and pick a moment in time.
Regarding battery drain: I doubt it's an issue at all, when you take a picture where everyone is smiling, or at least supposed to be, you take it in quite a short time as everybody says cheese at once. And with the "time machine" feature you take one photo and adjust every person in it if necessary. With the "old tech" you might have to take multiple pictures to get the perfect one. So you might even end up saving a few milliamperes.

24. AL7AIR commented 12 years ago on video Aurora borealis, northern tip of Norway.
#2 The Aurora Borealis, or Aurora Australis for that matter, are not the result of a decaying ozone layer. Ozone resides at the lower levels of the stratosphere, the Auroras are part of a gaseous particle reaction between the earth's atmosphere and charged particles released by the sun's atmosphere happening in the ionosphere.
The ozone layer in the stratosphere starts at about 15km above sea level and reaches heights of about 35km. If you want to reach the ionosphere you have to go "a little" higher, to about 50km above sea level and another 950km to exit it, passing through our planet's exosphere and thermosphere while you are at it.

27. AL7AIR commented 12 years ago on video LED suit surfer
#4 The suit is covered in EL-wire, so all he needs is a 12 volt DC power source to run everything. Power cells with that kind of output aren't big, and even if he needs a few of them, they can be strapped to his arms, or even legs, the same way you would attach a portable mp3 player or mobile phone in one of those Velcro armbands. Shocking yourself is also out of the question with those voltage levels.

#11 It's only the molds for the bots, namely those of the then Takara Diaclone and Microman series, that originated there. The Transformer brand name was first used in the US of A in 1984 when Hasbro made the TV series and toy line available. Granted the animation for the TV series was done in the land of the rising sun, but the title, characters and the writing was done in the States. I'm still riding ... or do you want to continue nitpicking?

46. AL7AIR commented 13 years ago on video US Navy crash
Three years late, but a link on another video brought me here:
The news article referred and linked to by most_uniQue in #8 and #16 has no connection to the video shown. The MH-53E Sea Dragon is a single rotor Sikorsky build helicopter (COD players out there might now its bigger brother the MH-53M Pave Low - almost same design but different loadout). The one you see landing, or rather not, however is a tandem rotor CH-46 Sea Knight build by Boeing Vertol.
Hope that helps clearing up that middle of the Mexican Golf and shore confusion and why, despite smaller fleet ships following the vessel, the helicopter crew wasn't picked up for another 30 minutes.

49. AL7AIR commented 13 years ago on video Visualization of RFID tags
#4 Not 100s of meters, best case scenario RFID-tag and -reader combinations top out at around 120 feet / 40 meters. Most RFID tags however are used in NFC environments, with the N standing for Near and the rest for Field Communication. The Oyster Card shown in the video (prepaid public transportation system in the UK) needs to be within 2 inches / 5 centimeters of a terminal to register on a bus for example.

71. AL7AIR commented 13 years ago on video Knuffingen Airport
#7 It's part of the big project "Miniatur Wunderland" in Hamburg Germany which started out as "just" an 120 square meter model landscape and a few trains that went around, but it kept growing from there over the past few years to at least a factor of 10. The airport you are looking at has approximately 150 square meters alone, with more than 150,000 work hours spend setting up 1000 meters of track and building around 300 houses and bridges in that part of the Wunderland alone, soldering in 40,000 LED lights, and using hidden tracks to guide planes and automobiles around. So the point you are looking for is: ingenuity, attention to detail, having fun at what you are doing and sharing that fun with others.

135. AL7AIR commented 14 years ago on video Awesome boat lift
#12 It sure is the Archimedes Principle at work here in that a floating object will displace it's weight in water, but your example is incorrect, the scale will add the weight of every tennis ball you throw in based on the fact that your tub is a closed container and the water has nowhere to go. The lift lock however has a door that closes once the boat is in, so the displaced water is pushed outside the lift, thus making the lift weight the same every time. So your example only works if the bath tub is filled up to the brim and every drop of water that is displaced overflows, but who wants to clean up that mess in the bathroom after the experiment?

It's not #2 for three very obvious reasons: First of all, a nail gun needs to be pressed against a wall to release a safety mechanism to actually fire the nail into it, otherwise you would shoot somebody if you pulled the trigger accidentally. Granted, this safety feature could be disabled for "painting". But, if you look at the nails in the close up they are all at the same angle despite him standing in one spot and not to mention that the nails pop up on the canvas in all sorts of places despite him pointing the gun somewhere else.

Rule number 2 is outright wrong, sure seeders have the whole file but they don't necessarily have the bandwidth. So every leecher, who already got other pieces than you, can send some megabytes your way to speed things up, and free up some connections and bandwidth for the seeders. So jumping on a torrent with only a few seeders and a couple more leechers actually helps everybody out in the long run.

Bullets fired into the air maintain their lethal capability when they eventually fall back down.
busted / plausible / confirmed
In the case of a bullet fired at a precisely vertical angle (something extremely difficult for a human being to duplicate), the bullet would tumble, lose its spin, and fall at a much slower speed due to terminal velocity and is therefore rendered less than lethal on impact. However, if a bullet is fired upward at a non-vertical angle (a far more probable possibility), it will maintain its spin and will reach a high enough speed to be lethal on impact. Because of this potentiality, firing a gun into the air is illegal in most states, and even in the states that it is legal, it is not recommended by the police. Also the MythBusters were able to identify two people who had been injured by falling bullets, one of them fatally injured. To date, this is the only myth to receive all three ratings at the same time.

Not as impressive if you speak one of those languages. He was way to fast, except for "Wunderbar" for wonderful and "danke schön" and "Nein, danke schön" which is a polite way to say thanks and no thanks in German respectively. 177. AL7AIR commented 15 years ago on video Project Natal
Aside from the "MS Paint 360" and the "Breakout Clone" they showed at E3, it looks like they made a trailer for a hardware, or better yet software, that doesn't exist yet. E.g. How is the girl accelerating and braking the car? Without an object (a real paddle) to push against, I don't think you can handle a car that well. And without a steering wheel to grab onto your arms are going to be sore 30min in.
I like what the technology itself is capable of, don't get me wrong, but I don't see any gamer playing a fighting game, racing game or first person shooter that way in the coming years, if ever. Casual couch entertainment like the quiz show in the trailer and maybe an updated version of Lips, Guitar Hero and Rock Band where the artists performance counts too are a likely Natal candidate if you ask me.

NerdAlert: A Constitution class vessel is not capable of staying in an atmosphere like that, if it breaks orbit towards a class m planet, it has to fly in the upper atmosphere and keep enough speed to achieve the necessary escape velocity to enter space once again. Very few ships of the federation are capable of atmospheric flight, like the Intrepid class, that's why Roddenberry invented the teleporter, because he couldn't figure out to land a ship that size (with the special effects available back then). I warned you, so if you read all of it, it's not my fault.

I wouldn't call it a hack if you actually bring some new equipment in, because that kind of setup could have been done on a big enough scaffolding. Still a cool installation and something you don't see everyday.

From the News: The loss of a $1.4 billion B-2 bomber in Guam was the result of three of 24 pressure sensors on the wings providing incorrect data, which led the flight control software to take unneeded corrective action during takeoff, and causing the aircraft to crash. The pressure sensors were designed to deal with high humidity, but conditions in the tropical climate of Guam created more humidity moisture than the system could actually deal with.
