@(removed comment) While it is true that C.G. is far and away less expensive that actual effects, there is less sense of awe for the viewer. I believe this is because even though C.G. is able to create vast and beautiful vistas, there is always (the thought when the C.G. is done properly) and more often the visual evidence that the picture on the screen isn't really there (especially with the new Blu-ray players and H.D.T.V.s(see peter jacksons "King Kong") . This I feel detracts from the viewing experience and has, with alarmingly increasing regularity given many of our current "Movie Houses" a blank check in terms of apparent laziness to the craft of film making. Sorry for being a long-winded jerk. This video is pretty freakin' sweet.

A really beautiful video, and a timeless speech by the forever amazing Carl Sagan. Unfortunately this video tries to make it seem like NASA isn't the reason the U.S. space program is dead (except it is). If NASA had only paid attention to Robert Zubrin and indeed Carl Sagan himself, we would already have a permanent science station on the red planet; not to mention space craft far in advance of the ridiculous (and now canned) shuttle. (Read: Orion Project/Nuclear pulse engine). I am an avid fan of all things science and all things space, what I have to say to anyone at NASA in any sort of decision making position is this. "Damn you sir, and what you have done to our dreams.". NASA deserves no credit for this, once, a long time ago they did, but not now. NASA is responsible for so many backward steps it should be dissolved and replaced by something that actually works.

This tech. doesn't have to be a weapon you know, what about un-manned mining robots in the asteroid belt using this kind of thing to fire ore back into earth orbit? It was indeed a horrendous tragedy, the loss of life a brutal crime and the after effects on those poor people a heart rending shame. However because of this incident (and others) great strides have been made in the safety of operation at these plants, which gives me hope for the continuation of our species since we will doubtlessly need them in the near future. The sad fact of this event is the powers that were had a tiger by the tail and did not know exactly how big and hungry it was, and because of that horrors have been visited on these people of such a magnitude that they can never be undone.. I can only hope we've learned the CORRECT lessons from this.
