2. NotFirst commented 9 years ago on video Premium gas vs. regular: Which is Better?
OK, here's the low-down.
The gas that we use has Octane and Heptane in it. (ignoring all the other stuff in it for now)
Octane is an 8-Carbon molecule and the Heptane only has 7-Carbon atoms. Both molecules are made during the refining process. The higher % of gas means that there is a higher % of Octane in it...not that it's cleaner...that's rubbish. Here's why this is important: Octane is a much more stable molecule than the Heptane. This means that the Octane will not release its Hydrogen and Carbon atoms (energy ie: burn) until it is at a specific temperature and pressure. The Octane has to be forced to "blow up". The Heptane, however, will burn much more willingly because it is not as stable.
What this means for your (regular) car/truck: By having more strong Octane molecules, means not all of it gets burned (used) by your engine. Hence, more **carbon emissions**. -Of course we do need Octane...we want our fuel to be stable...don't need to explain that one.
**I should note here: These "Carbon Emissions" are not the ones that go up into the atmosphere. These emissions are carbon molecules that are heavy and do not go up and ruin our environment. Those are due to other molecules that will not be discussed here....Just enjoy the dang video!
Oh yeah, There are high performance engines that do run on higher octane fuel...they absolutely have to have that increased stability because the engines run so hot and fast!

We should all use zulu time. That would solve many problems, although I admit I don't know much about.
He mentioned that the earth's rotation is slowing down. True: We loose about one second a year: solar drift, entropy, other reasons for lose of energy. (Every year they adjust the atomic clocks to compensate for this)
He also mentioned that the earth speeds up. False: It was probably just a slip of the tongue, as he was speaking rather quickly. This phenomena has never been observed.

#17: "Important" nerves run through Coccyx. These nerves are protected by the bone. In addition, there are ligaments attached to the bone that provide an anchor point for some muscles, gluteus maximus (larger butt muscle) to name one of many. Posture and structure support during birthing are also functions of the Coccyx.HELLO SOMEBODY! BAMB!

30. NotFirst commented 12 years ago on video Oldest Light in the Universe
Big Problem here: The speed of light is not a constant. In other words, light has not always been as slow as it is today.
Thats right, The first time we measured the speed of light was in 1676. Not as accurate as today, but, if you compile the data collected over the last 336 years it is very clear that light is subject to the 2nd law of thermodynamics, as is every other particle in our universe. Light is slowing down, which means it used to go faster. Much faster. There are estimations that only 2000 years ago, light may have traveled 2x fast.
This is a good video with a lot of good info. But it makes "conclusions" based off too many (non observable or repeatable) assumptions.
Not bashing on the video, just saying that if light indeed is not a constant, then the whole premise of this idea has to be thrown out.
--by the way, "Cosmic Background Radiation" is just a fancy sounding word for, "energy that we have no idea where is comes from, its just there"

It cracks me up that many people assume that someone is OK when they look fine. I have seen much worse internal injuries from much less trauma. Never move anyone quickly, as it could cause more damage.
I wonder what the guy was thinking when he heard his friend say, "He's fine". If he could have responded at the moment, it probably would have sounded like: "@*#%$^& %!$#$^%!!!!"

The plane did not "Atomize". (:26 sec) -This means it gets broken down into "atom sized particles".
More like Powderized, if that's a word. (It is now! )
When something is "Atomized", the remnant pieces are too small to see. The diameter of Atoms are between 1 × 10^-10 m and
5 × 10^-10 M.
For example, the Atom "lanthanum" is 187 picometers. -just picking a random element.
You would need 187,000,000,000 lanthanum atoms lined up in a row in order to make just ONE CENTIMETER.
A more familiar Atom: about One Hundred Trillion Hydrogen Atoms lined up to make ONE CENTIMETER as well.
So again, not atomized, just Stinking awesome!!
And one more thing: The wall did not "absorb" the energy (:38 sec). The wall reflected the Kinetic energy, and pulverized the plane. -The plane 'absorbed' the energy, lol.

I agree with you on the stupid reasons that the US went over there and it makes me sick to my stomach and very upset about the crap that goes on behind political doors, then what we hear are bold-face lies about the truth. In that respect, I agree with you, and wish that the government didn't have that much power. -Watch the movie "Green Zone"
LISTEN TO ME! I did not push any buttons and bomb anyone! We do not kill innocent people! That's called murder. I will have no part in it. If my government kills innocent people, it is the people's responsibility to bring that government down. (this is why citizens should have the right to bear arms-so the government fears the people!!!!!)
Anyways, alot of peoples lives were changed for the better over there. I saw many good things. So please don't call everyone that has gone to war an "evil person". There are still those of us who stand up for the rights of other people and ask for nothing in return. And, I am better than no one. So please refrain from commits that suggest that I think otherwise. Peace to you.
(FYI: It is people in the Car Bombs that kill many, many civilians, not the solders. It's very sad, I saw it many times. )

I'm glad that there are some people that have the courage to stand up and do the right thing and stop people who willing kill people. Some people can't stand up for themselves, I will be that person to stop the bullies. Are you going to be the person that starts crying when the bully gets beat up and call me the bad guy??!!
Sure, there are always political agendas, and that part of war sucks! But I'm not going to talk about that part.
If you are in danger, and your family is facing death, I will come to your rescue and I will give you back the control of your life. Then you will tell me that I am the bad guy and I am in it for the greed. I face that attitude all the time, no sweat, I'll gladly do it again to save your sorry butt.
If anyone is offended at this message, let me guess: Your job does not include Law Enforcement, You are not a part of a Search and Rescue team, You do not believe in personal firearms, and you are not a history buff.

I lived through one (many actually) that was bigger than this. I was about ten feet away from it in a stryker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stryker). Destroyed the vehicle, but we all lived. We restored the citizens' control of their water and electric supply. They were glad that they didn't have to depend on a dictator to give them what they needed, but the citizens have control now, schools are opened up, and the people vote too! I am glad I was a part of the good stuff happening over there. (Iraq that is).

However, this video was quite pointless and it sucked.
Maybe I missed the point. Sure, there are a few neat scenes, but still, the pure randomness of it made it boring.

There are very small amounts of muscles in the fingers. The amount, however is not sufficient for climbing. #13 is correct. Fingers, in this case, will "grow" larger because the different tissue types found in the fingers will increase the more you use them. For example, white fibrous connective tissue (connects muscles to bone); Aerolar connective tissue (the elastic stuff that connects one tissue to the other-this is why you can pull your skin away from you, then it goes back into place.) And of course the bone.
The more you pull on the bones and put pressure on them, they will get thicker and stronger (more minerals get deposited). As is the case with most tissues in the body. The most widely know case of this is when you wear out your muscles, they will compensate by getting bigger. (not enough room to discuss the molecular reactions here) This also happens (in a matter of speaking) with neurons, the more you learn, the easier it will be to learn.

108. NotFirst commented 14 years ago on video Freezing to death, but surviving thanks to the cold
2nd: Ok, now on to the cold:
During this conversion process the enzymes have to stay at a certain temp, or they do not make energy. This also means that they no longer make CO2 (nothing toxic to exhale now). In addition, they don't need oxygen (oxygen is used in the energy conversion process). -No metabolic work, means they don't need O2, and don't need to get rid of CO2. The cell can now just relax and do nothing. This does not mean that it is dead, just barely active. As long as the stuff inside the cell does not dissolve, theoretically, it should last indefinitely.
-When the cells warm up to the correct temperature, they will resume full function.
In the case of a humans being cooled down like this, the metabolic activity is only slowed down. It is not stopped. The CO2 will not reach toxic levels for very long periods of time. An example of an enzyme at work like this, is in the making of bread. When the yeast is making chemical changes, the byproduct is CO2, the gas then is trapped in little pockets in the dough, this is why bread is fluffy. The yeast is best active at about 95-104 degrees F. If it's too hot, the yeast is killed (enzyme's shaped is changed). Frozen, and it will still work when it is warmed up.
#13 is right, that's why this only works with 'almost' freezing.
-I heard of a guy being underwater for 4 hours.
This is very rare, but it does happen. Some places in the world preform surgery's simply by cooling people down to a point where there is minimal metabolic activity, enough to where the body is not starving for oxygen, therefore, tissues will not die quickly.
NOTE: This is also why they say to put severed limbs into ice cold water. -It preserves the limb (sorry, gross, I know)
Last Note: If you rescue a lifeless person from the water, warm them up SLOWLY, and continue chest compressions to keep the blood flowing. -or from the snow, or anywhere cold. A saying from Search and Rescue, "They are not dead, unless they are warm and dead".

I can explain medically/or physically how this works. -sorry it's long, if you don't care just skip it, but it's cool.
First, I will explain why the body needs to maintain about 37 degrees (98.6F)
Then I will explain what happens at a cellular level when it cools down to almost freezing.
1st: The body needs to maintain a certain temperature in order to carry out metabolic activity.
A couple things your body does that is affected by temperature:
-The body converts food, into storage by using enzymes. ie: carbohydrates (plants) into glucose (sugar molecules). (stored as glycogen in the liver)
-Synthesis of molecules. (the making of building block, enzymes, energy molecules, and many other things.)
One of the most important things that is happening in your body, is the process of MAKING ENERGY for cell work.
It's like a factory that makes energy from the food we eat. When the energy molecules are made, there are a lot of extra parts left over. One of the biggest byproducts of metabolic activity is carbon dioxide (CO2). (BTW, CO2 is from the food we eat, not the air we breath)
When the gas, CO2, is made, it is toxic to the cells in your body. You get rid of the CO2 by your blood. The blood carries it to your lungs and you exhale it. (When you go running, more energy molecules are needed, and synthesized, hence, more CO2 is produced which needs to be exhaled quicker). -also, this conversion process releases energy in the form of heat, that's why we get hot when we run.
(will continue comment in my next post, too long for one post)

This stuff is amazing.
Just for your info: what they see when they are looking at this, are not pictures of planets (too far away) they are looking at how the light spectrum (different frequencies of light) are rotating, or strobing. When the rotations are observed for long periods of time, and they have a quantified signature (digital), a pattern in otherwords, we assume that there are large objects rotating around that star. Of course, it is an educated assumption.
If you listen again you will hear many words like, "at least, they believe, strong reason to believe, suspected, probably, seem to, theoretical ideas". (It's just funny, I can see it now: many people will go tell their friends that we have found planet X!)
'Just have an objective mind when learning about science, not all observations are what they seem.'

DID YOU KNOW??: You can only go down so small. You can only go as small as 10x-33cm. If you go any smaller than that, you lose a property called locality. That's right, anything smaller than 10x-33cm has "non-locality" (quantum mechanics)
In other words, every particle that is that small, interacts with every other particle that small all over the universe, no matter the distance. It's characteristics also change upon being observed.
Albert Einstein: (something like this) "If you are not confused by quantum mechanics, you don't understand it"
My brain now hurts

2% of 3 billion (base pairs on DNA) is 60 million. That's 60 million differences in base pairs. That's not "closely related" at all.
As a matter of fact, Tobacco has 48 chromosomes as does the chimp. (That is more closely related)
some say 1.5% difference, that's 45 million.
Just food for thought, not making an argument here
It is philosophy and ideology to discuss aliens (all good things of course), but it is not classified as science.
This guy does propose provocative thoughts

Time is a physical property. It is not uniform.
It is subject to mass, acceleration, gravity, among other things. (spacial dimensions and what not). Which makes it subject to to laws of entropy as well. (Special Relativity-Length, mass, velocity and time are relative to velocity of the observers)-backs up #17
Most people think of time as linear. Like I am standing on a street corner watching a parade go by.
If you were outside of the restrictions of the four dimensions (directly knowable) that we live in, you would not be subject to time. It could be manipulated.(the bending and folding of space-time) However, I don't know of anyone who can remove themselves from these restrictions. Unless there was supernatural intervention I.E.: the other six (indirectly knowable) dimensions??? There is support that shows that the other dimensions are superior to 1-4. For example, the 3rd dimension can manipulate the 2nd and it is superior. The 6th to the 5th-1st, and so on. As a crud example, you can bend or fold a piece of paper, to Mr Flat, on the piece of paper (2nd dimension), it would be confusing. Outside of his understanding of reality.
"People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between the past, the present, and the future, is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." -Albert Einstein
You can look back in time, and you can go into the future. But you cannot go to the past, and you cannot look into the future.
I still want some future coffee though!
