Donno about the featured dancing guys, but the soundtrack is actually by a Ukrainian band "Selo - i - Ludy" (literally Village and People). They performed it on "Ukraine's got talent". https://youtu.be/seso-q0W2zk?t=72

#10 Not exactly. We have compulsory 3d party insurance here in Ukraine, but we are nowhere near being protected. If the police doesn't screw you, your insurance company will (it is easier for them just to state that you have been DUI than to pay). In addition, you will still have to repair your car yourself.

#18 You are missing my point. :) I'm not saying radiation is a joke, because it is not. But really, 500 μSv per hour is a laughable level. Just don't stay there for more than it is needed and don't touch it to avoid contaminating your clothes or skin with dust or paint from it (like the guy in the video from comment 10 did) and you'll be fine. Just see on Wiki how much you get from a CT scan or the recommended annual exposure limits and you'll see what I mean. :)

+4 15. desertstorm commented 12 years ago on video Highly radioactive graphite crane claw

#11 They rarely show occasional tourists those really interesting places (unless you are a moneybag or something :) ). Just standard stuff like the ghost town of Pripyat, the Sarcophagus, the cooling reservoir, maybe a few villages on the way. Besides, there's not much to see anymore, as wild vegetation has covered virtually everything over the years...
Picture of desertstorm24 achievements

+6 16. desertstorm commented 12 years ago on video Highly radioactive graphite crane claw

#8 That is correct, yet it is not the alpha particles that one should worry about when dealing with radioactive stuff (unless you swallow that stuff as I've said before). Beta and gamma particles are the killers, and you can't get much of those from Americium-241, whereas there's lots of stuff still emitting them in Chernobyl even 26 years later.
Picture of desertstorm24 achievements

+10 17. desertstorm commented 12 years ago on video Highly radioactive graphite crane claw

#5 It's still interesting as 500 μSv per hour is way, way above average. My point just was that it will not make you instantly drop dead and glowing. :x
Picture of desertstorm24 achievements

+85 18. desertstorm commented 12 years ago on video Highly radioactive graphite crane claw

#1 Because short-term exposure even to large quantities of radiation is pretty much safe. Moreover, if I've heard her right, she's talking about 500 μSv per hour, or 0.0005 Sv per hour, which is a laughable dose. You'd have to stay there for 4000 thousand (!!!) hours or literally eat this metal (radiation does much more damage from inside) for it to start getting dangerous. Hell, even a brain CT scan would give you more: 0.8–5 mSv or 0.0008 - 0.005 Sv.

#6 54 kilos of dry weight.

#7 They do. In the "Training hill" part (starts at 1:55) or in other videos at their website. It lands either on that little wheel in the back and a skid in the front, or by the pilot putting his feet down like he does during takeoff. The speed is like 4 mph or even less into the wind, so it shouldn't be a problem.

#14 Nonsense! Utter mumbo jumbo. What you loosely quote here, dear Sir, is called Pascal's Wager, and it is true only and exclusively IF there is only ONE god. When you introduce the possibility of multiple gods, with each of them claiming to be the only one TRUE god, sending you to hell for believing in the wrong one, the Wager fails miserably. Christopher Hitchens has once exhaustively explained that.

The feat is cool and all, but judging from the plane's landing speed shown at the end, it is safe to assume that the effort was not worth it. The pilot would have wrecked the plane a little at most, if he tried to land it with one wheel. Cool video, though.

+3 37. desertstorm commented 12 years ago on video Don't buy puppies

You can rate the following comment however low you like, but here is what I have to say about all this.

I am strongly against applying consumerism standards to living things (dogs, cats, people, whatever). However, it is those brainwashed and brainwashing vegan-animal-loving bastards I despise and hate the most. And here is why:

You all know PETA with its $30-something million annual budget to protect animals, right? Now think about the following: PETA has killed more than 95 percent of the pets in its shelters in 2011 (1,911 cats and dogs). The total number of pets it has killed since 1998 is inconceivable - more than 27,000!!! 84 percent of pets arriving at their shelters are exterminated in the first 24 hours! And when asked if it is all true, they didn't even bother to deny it! Just read it:

http://dailycaller.com/2012/02/24/documents-peta-kills-more-than-95-percent-of-pets-in-its-care/

Now, I don't know about you, but I have a problem with that, because knowing these things, how can I be sure that this, or any other video like that, really does have animals' interests in mind? The bigger problem is not that animals are abused, but that thousands of bastards from either side brainwash people to get money. And I strongly believe we should start with solving this larger problem.

#6 You know, people are sent to concentration camps over there for listening to non-North Korean radio stations. My question is: How come these handsome, cheerful folks, who "try to live a normal life" are not in a concentration camp for even knowing what "Take on me" is? Or maybe they are just government tools and this is just a piece of North Korean propaganda that says: " Look, Look! We have a normal life over here too!"?

P.S. Not to mention there is no internet in there, so the video couldn't get posted unless it was government-approved...

+4 43. desertstorm commented 12 years ago on video Why It's Good To Have A Dash Camera

#17 In Russia?! No they can't, if they have either A) money, B) power. Judging from the fact that the b$&ch drives a $90.000 BMW, unless he is extremely lucky, or decides it's not worth it and leaves, that guy is probably screwed. The camera footage doesn't matter. This is a 99.9...% no-win situation.

#16 This is not some kind of special security cam, but a small GPS-sized cheap (about $50) device you can buy at any e-store in here (or at least in Ukraine). Gives you a decent picture (about 1280x960) and sound. Look it up on ebay if you want one (car camcorder or smth.)

+4 45. desertstorm commented 12 years ago on video Tiger tank start up

#10 That is a more clever way to start the engine than that used in old cars. Whereas in a car you had to apply force directly to the crankshaft, thus facing the difficulty of overcoming engine compression ratio to turn it (absolutely impossible with a huge tank engine), in the case of inertia starter (seen here) you just had to spin up the flywheel and it would do the rest.

#20 I agree mostly, yet do have a reservation. Although useful for, say, Neanderthals, measuring gene pool strength in the possession of material goods has become almost completely obsolete with the general rapid increase in human population welfare over the last couple of centuries. Some basic things, such as physical traits, still do matter a lot. But money... As far as I can tell, in Ukraine (where I do live and where the video was filmed) those with the most money are far from being those with the strongest gene pool. :)

#1 He wastes more rubber than you think :) The smoke you see during a car tyre burnout is actually gases providing a cushion and making the tire hover over the tarmac.
